So I was perusing the 2011 Cabelas Shooting magazine today and I happened to notice listed on page 26 amongst the various new and exciting Hornady loads being offered was a 300 gr. SP-RP load for the 35 Whelen in the new Superformance Line of Ammunition. This sounds like a very interesting load. A 250 grain Partition would still be my choice for the heaviest of heavy that I would likely pursue with a 35 Whelen but I couldn't help but wonder what made them come out with this. There must me some demand for such a load. Africa? Alaska?

So inquisitive man that I am I went to the Hornady website and attempted to find the abovementioned load in their wonderful ballistic index. Lo and behold, there was nonesuch. The only load mentioned was a 200 gr bullet. Hmmm!

So somebody typo-ed or they just don't have the numbers posted yet. Im thinking the former is likely the case rather than the latter. Still a 300 grain bullet in this cartridge would not be out of the question. Its rather interesting I think.

I am pretty sure it is a 200gr load. The Cabelas write up is likely a typo. Kinda odd they went with a 200gr load though and not one with their 250gr Interlock. That load at 2400+ would be a sure big game round for just about everything and at Whelen speeds would probably have excellent performance. Scotty
