Took the 45-70 out this morning. It was cool with a 15kph cross breeze. Using a nice mild new loading with the 350g Hotcor she put in this initial group at 120y...

Took it out to 180y and tried the remaining four rounds at that range.

These were doing a nice mild 1770fps out of the 18inch barrel of the Marlin GBL. Load was 47.5g of H4198.

Then quickly broke out the 30-06 testing some 168g Zmax bullets, which I believe is the Amax with a green tip and a different label. One five shot group at 260 yards...

These were pulling 2899fps with a load of H4350 at 59g.

Pretty happy with those loads and keen to see how they go on the pigs and goats, or maybe even a deer or two!

Nice shooting! Those two cartridges are old friends of mine. Good to see them doing well for you.

Those are both grouping very nicely for those ranges. And your getting some great speed out of that -06!

Nothing wrong with those loads or the rifleman. You're set. Time to go hunting.

Great shooting Bob. Your 45-70 looks great!

That 30-06 seems to really thrive off of those 168's as well. Nice!

Those groups will do. You should be well equipped to down about any game within a reasonable range.

Nothing wrong with either of those groups.

Hey be careful, those Z-max bullets are to use on Zombies you know! ;) They might make your venison taste a little too gamey ;)

Yeah, like it was beat to death and resurrected only to be beat again?

Hoping to do the wet newspaper test this weekend on the Zmax, putting them up against the Hdy I'lock and the NBT. I am sure they won't hold together as well but keen to see where they stack up.

No zombies to test them on sorry!

Well done Bob. You are set to go.
Ya just gotta love the 1895G 45-70. The accuracy is just short of amazing. ;)

The ol' 45-70 even does good with black powder in a single shot Browning and vernier sights. One of the good ones. 62 gr of Swiss 1.5 and the Lyman 500 gr bullet. The first shot is always a flyer.
