Back in the 338 WM game

Came across a nice Tikka T3 in 338 WM a couple weeks ago. It cam with a synthetic stock. I flipped out the synthetic for a wood stock that I had. Mounted up a Leupolc VX-III 3.5-10,

Reloaded some 200 gr E-tips and she is shooting pretty well. No pictures of groups, but I figure the E-tip will punch through an elk relatively easily.

Also a picture of the Marlin GBL 45-70 with a Leupold VX-III 1.5-5....shooting 405 gr Oregon Trail cast bullets.

Find myself moving more away from the synthetic. They have a time and place. But the wood is classic and I detest the plastic rub against twigs.

Those .338 cals. are about IT for elk hunting. Somewhere I saw where all great elk rifle calibers
must start with the number three!

LOL funny the first thing that went through my head when I saw that 45-70 is I would like to have that!

I think you'll be happy with the 200 ET out of the 338 WM. I took a small 3 pt. Mulie buck with one several years ago. Not that a deer is to much of a test for a 338 WM, but it worked pretty good.

What's the recoil like in the Tikka? I have a boatload of the T-3's but haven't bought one in that flavor (yet). You're the first person I've heard of that owned one that I could ask.

RJM - The T3 in 338 does have a whop. More than the Tikka 695 that I have (which I would sell if someone wants - $625 shipped). The day I took these pictures, I shot the Marlin with 405 gr cast bullets, the Tikka 338 and a Remington 7400 in 35 Whelen.

Not much different between the 45-70 and the 338. Glad to have the Lims pad installed on the rifle, but the stock geometry seems to work well for me.
