I know this is a nosler forum, but i have all the books, in the barnes book #4, i am just wanting to know if anyone can tell me if the C.O.A.L. that is suggested for each different load and bullet is what they recommend for each of those bullets once the round is loaded, of if it is the minimum that you should load your round at, for instance i have a 7mm WSM and for the 140 grn bullets it has 3 of them and they are all different, tsx=2.750" mrx=2.830" and bnd spt=2.800", is that where i should have my loaded rounds at for each of those, or is that the minimum that they should be loaded at?

The Barnes Manual is informing you for the length to which they loaded their round. There are various reasons for choosing the particular length. The rule for monolithic bullets still holds: allow some jump to the lands. Barnes suggests 0.030 to 0.070 inches off the lands. In fact, their technicians have found that many rifles have a sweet spot with monolithic bullets at 0.100 and more off the lands. Your own rifle will tell you the OAL required for accuracy.

Load to magazine length if they will still fit in your chamber.
Otherwise seat .05" deep to start, with Monolithic bullets you should be farther off the lands then cup/core bullets.

i am using the ttsx, so i have been just using the load data for the tsx, that says 2.750", and my magazine can easily handle 2.860" which is the sami max for the 7mm WSM, so are you saying just load them at around 2.860 and go for it, or should i try something like right in the middle of what they say and the max like maybe 2.800"

If you can load them to magazine length and still be off the lands, That is where I would start.

For the Barnes, I have always started at least, .050" off. Seemed to go back from there. None of them ever did really well till they had some jump to them. I think the ET is about the same. Scotty

For the TTSX and my 338 Win Mag, groups were 1.5" - 1.75" groups @ 100 yards but .095 was the charm and .092 made it a permanent keeper with consistent 5/8" groups @ 100 yards.

That is pretty excellent shooting Steve. Not too much the 338 won't handle with those. What was your speed out of the 225's? Scotty
