what can it do that the $200-250 models can't? thanks for the fast reply.

In my opinion? Yes.

I have too many big guns that shoot expensive bullets. I can not afford false readings.

I had folding models which when not unfolded all the way (hence... sensors were closer) give me crazy speeds without any idea that they were wrong, other than my experience. The proof channel in the Oehler is just that.
Additionally I have never ever had an error in the 35P that was not generated by yours truly.

In the sun or lack there of (within reason) you will get the goods.

If you're on a very tight budget I can recommend this and it is on sale.

I do not do load development on a continuing basis and tend to use my chronograph in streaks a couple times a year, and then have it sit for months. Because of this and also my being on a fixed income, I bought a Chrony Beta Master chronograph, the one that comes with a remote digital screen read out. This machine cost me about $120. a few years ago. They still are available.

It has been reliable and has provided the detail that I need for my loading projects. It is a little blast sensitive but once I started placing and measuring my magnums at 15 feet to the first screen, it settled down and is pretty consistant. It also has been pretty correlative with other chrony machines that I have seen at the range when I had the opportunity to compare them.

It would be nice to have a better chrony but the way that I use mine, it is perfectly adequate for my needs. Getting a solid tripod for it may be just as important. Fortunately, I used to do some photography and have a solid, professional Bogen tripod.

I have two Beta Chronys and an Oehler 35P. The Chronys are adequate for most of the work any of us will ever do. However, Fotis is correct that for precision and confidence, nothing will take the place of an Oehler.
