What is your opinion of this rifle?

I had 2 or three and they were tack drivers especially my 7mm WSM.

Share your own experiences please.

All I've shot were as good as the original A-Bolts. I've worked up loads in several and all shot more than acceptably.

That mirrors my findings Doc. My thing is why are they not more popular? The only negative thing that I know about them is the threads when it comes to re barreling but how many Joes buy a rifle of that cost just to rebarrel?

I believe Browning got a bad rap because of price. Compared to other major brands commonly available, they are at least ten percent higher in price. Consequently, people don't purchase them as readily and speak ill of them, even though they've never shot one. The first Browning I owned was a Eurobolt chambered in 7mm RM, and it was among the most accurate rifles I have owned. I'm still kicking myself for letting it go.

Were I on that side of the border, I very possibly would have that rifle. I certainly would not hesitate to buy it.

It is a steal Fotis. 26" barrel and all. Plus, I dig that wood and blue finish on it. Pretty danged good price. I know there is a trigger spring kit for the Browning's that tunes them down pretty nice. I do think the A-Bolt's are slick actions. Then again, Browning doesn't make junk. Might not be the pick for everyone, they put together a nice rifle.

He has three of them. As for the trigger I can work it down to 2 LBS like my A-bolt 7mm WSM I had.

I currently own three (7WSM, 260, 338WM) and have owned several others over the years. All been above average accuracy-wise.

If you have a hankering for a 264 I would be jumping all over this one.

Me too. It is a great deal on a 264 mag. I just have no use for it right now.

270 WSM and 7mm rem rum in the safe so what is the point?

I have owned (4) A-Bolt rifles in .243, .280 (2) and .300 WSM. I did not particularly like the trigger in them. It is a little rough and is hard to clean up. Other than that one point, they were very accurate out of the box. I did not pay $900 for them, I paid about $550-600 each which is easier to take. Two had the BOSS (.243, .280) and shot very tiny groups out to 300 yards.

The Medalion stock is nicely figured usually and they are good quality from Japan. Browning always prices a little high. I owned the last .280 for about 15 years and killed a few deer with it. It always worked great. My son has the .300 WSM and my grandson has the .280.

Very nice, Fotis. That could get my interest. Price wise, it isn't as good a deal as the Browning. However, it is a Winchester. It certainly doesn't appear to have been abused.

The Model 70 looks pretty clean, nice wood that would sway me toward the Winchester Model70, I am afraid! I have never owned a .264 but they are a special caliber as far as I am concerned. I think that I would rather have that rifle than even a .270 WSM.

I love the model 70 version of the 264 but I worry about the round count of some of the used ones. You know what I mean. Some folks shoot a lot of light, fast varmint rounds . You sure can't beat the elegant lines of the classic 70 though. The A-Bolt I have is a great, light rifle in 325 WSM and it shoots as good as it looks.

An X-bolt I'm working with is proving to be very accurate. It's also pretty light and handy. I'm really thinking one of the old A-bolts in 25 WSSM would be a nice little rifle. Very nearly 25-06 performance, but even shorter/lighter than a short action rifle...

I owned a 243 and 30-06 a bolt II. They were both highly accurate and stamped Morgan, UT which is the same stamp on the box of my brand new M70 Winchester, because they are both manufactured under FN...just like they both make BOSS and it is a good product as well. I traded my super accurate "Fat Bolt" Browning BBR 30-06 to my dad for his M70 7mm Mag probably about 8 yrs ago and they are both great rifles.

I had one a-bolt is SS that was a 300 RUM. That was the only one that did not shoot ANYTHING well.

I've not owned a centerfire A-Bolt, but I do currently own an A-Bolt 22. The wood and metalwork are excellent, the trigger is adjustable and the rifle is accurate. It's pretty nice.

Perhaps one downside to an A-Bolt is the fewer number of aftermarket accessories, when compared to a Remington or Winchester (triggers, scope mounts, stocks, etc.). If you're a factory gun shooter, then there isn't much of a downside. I've got quite a selection of Remington scope mounts and other accessories, so I'm pretty well locked into Remington 700s.

I had one that got stolen (long story). It shot pretty well it was a 223 WSSM. But I dropped it after climbing over a fence landed on my foot hand still on the barrel and the stock cracked from the tang up past the front of the magazine well. I was very disappointed to say the least. Never much cared for the 60 degree bolt lift either.
