Anybody know anything about these rifles? I am looking at one that is a beautiful bolt action but I don't know much about Browning. I cannot find any information on their website either. I did find info about BARs but not the bolt actions. :?

Older guns of great quality. You need to call them and ask the historian on these.

Check an make sure it is not a salt model, there were a lot of them in the Safari grade high powers.

Said "no salt, nitrate tested" What is the history, here?
Is this a rifle that I should'nt buy?
Any info will be great. :?

Ok, if anyone is interested, I googled- browning safari salt and found the following site- which answered my question.

http://www.outdoorsdirectory.com/akforu ... /55952.htm

I found out that salt in the Brownings, from about 70 to 74, was caused from the way Browning used salt to dry out the wood stocks of the rifles. The technique imparted salt into the wood and caused the rifle metal to corrode. So, if my rifle is before 1970 it should be a good rifle to have.

Thanks for the help, all, and Merry Christmas!

I have never owned a Browning but I always thought that the older Belgium made Brownings were very desirable. What caliber are you looking to get?

Don't Laugh, JD, Iam looking at a 308 Norma Magnum- I like different.
I have never owned a Browning, but I have heard great things from friends. This one "spoke to me" you know how it is when it is right. It was built in the late sixties, but is in excellant condition- I would call it mint. In fact it looks like it just came out of the box. I will talk to the owner after the holidays and see where it goes.
Merry Christmas :)
