This is something that makes me think about cleaning my gun.

We talk about shooting clean barrels and dirty barrels all the time. Cleaning frequency, technique and chemicals just as much.
Have you ever considered that copper all by it's self is extreemely corrosive to steel. The whole dissimilar metals thing.
For example plumbers can't connect black iron pipe to a copper fitting. Galvanized pipe lasts longer but the copper still eats it up.
The new pressure treated lumber has such high levels of copper in it that it will eat nails. While hot dipped galvanized nails are recomended, the only type of nail that will last is stainless.

Just think what a copper fouled barrel will look like after a while.

electrolosis takes a couple things to make it work. one metal grounded is required. A rifle could be grounded on the steel barrel when leaning against a gun safe wall, but the copper would need to be exposed in some way to complete the circuit
