TN rifle season starts this Saturday. I usually have crappy luck during rifle season but at least I get to shoot a lot before season. :) I think I should be set, if you guys see any holes in my arsenal for this season let me know.

.45/70 - 405 Rem's at 1550fps - .7" group at 60yds with peep sights
.30/06 - 180NBT 2600-2700fps - .5"-.7" groups at 130yds
.260 Rem - 120gr NBT - 2880fps - crazy small groups
.358 Win - 200gr Hornady SP - 2500fps - .4" group at 75yds
.35 Rem - 200gr CoreLokt - 2000fps - shoots good, never measured at 50yds
.44 Rem Mag - SBH - 310gr WFNGC @ 1200fps - WEEEEE HAW!!!!!
.30/30 - T/C Super 14 Contender 2x20mm scope - shoots good too

Whadda think?? Can I survive the deer woods? Do I have any that will just bounce off?

I dunno'. I don't see any 50-70 Super Thumpers. Those 45 calibre bullets are bouncing off of deer, and if you are shooting something pedestrian like a 30/30, well deer fall down and laugh at such puny projectiles. I reckon you might luck out and find a puny deer that is having an off day. Best of luck to you this year. Be sure to post some pictures.

A .25-06 at the very least, or maybe a .257 Weatherby. Or maybe a .250-300 or a Bob (.257 Roberts). Gotta have a quarter bore!

The quarter bores have never appealed to me at all, no idea why. I have a .243 but I have never and honestly would never deer hunt with it. I just won a Savage 110 on a punch board tonight, it's in a .270 - YUCK!!! It must go and a new barrel must be added, choices choices.

That would be a good donor for the 50-70 that Mike suggested.

.270 YUCK! My good man that is a classic deer rifle with 130 gr. bullets. You do have quite an arsenal though to hunt with :!:

Let's see, an '06 length donor...

.338-06?
.280 Ackley?
6.5-06?
.35 Whelen?
9.3x62?
.375 Whelen?

The .270 is a classic, there are several guys I hunt with the love them. For some reason it is a caliber that has just never done much for me.

BK, I hear what you're screamin', 6.5/06 or 6.5x55, or 338/06 or 35 Whelen, decisions decisions.

Looks good!
Maybe bump up the 45-70 405 gr load to 1850 fps (52.5 grs H322) for grins.

One word of caution, if you go with the 35 Whelen, the rest of your rifles will become safe queens.

Heath: Keep the .30-06 forever, sell the rest. Finance a western elk hunt with the cash.

There's not much walking on this side of the big water you can't thump and dump with that arsenal and Nosler bullets.

Heath -

You have the .260 so keep it in the family and build a 6.5-06AI  130gr AB or VLD's would allow you access into the next county.

Never was a quarter bore fan myself till Sportsmans messed up on a price on a Rem 700 SPS in .257Bee that I stole.
This one is running a close second to my 6.5 favortism.

Concur on the 35 Whelen. Probably one of the most useful cartridges I have. Handles pretty much everything out to 300 yards with ease! Scotty
