Dale,

150gr Partitions, w/ H4831 or RL22. 2850-2900fps.
Or 140 gr Barnes TSX.

With either bullet you can take any shot presented. I've killed lots and lots of elk with 150gr Partitions in 270's. Although the Barnes bullets penetrate like crazy I still like the Partitions for two reasons:

-They tend to perform (expand) consistently across a wide range of velocities.
-Because Partitions are popular you can find them at discounted prices--which makes them a great value for a premium bullet.

Thanks guys! I have some IMR 4831 already. What grain load produces the above mentioned velocities? I know there is a difference between IMR and H4831, but is the difference very much between the two?

Thanks,
Dale

Sigp239,

270 Win with a 150 gr PT and RL22 should fill your freezer.

There is a big differts in IMR4831 and H4831. H4831 is slower burn. More like RL-22. Best to look in the Nosler #5 and start low and work up slowly.

130's work real well too. Of 3 I've recovered 1. IMR 4831 is your best bet with either the 130 or 150 grain.

I agree the 150 NP. I used it in the past to harvest a couple of elk and moose. 140TSX would be another.

I always had good luck with H4831 in the 270win. H4350 in the 270 was a good performer as well in terms of accuracy little slower in velocity though. RL 19 showed some promise as well in the 270win but I kinda stop playing around with it and moved on...just stuck with H4831. Haven't run much RL22 in the 270 but lots in 7mm rem mag and 300's..it has been a solid performer as well.

In terms of velocity Noslers 5th has a number of max loads near or at 2900 fps area. They list H4831 as the fastest at 2905 with 55gr & RL22 next at 2902 under 56.5gr. They note H4350 as the most accurate load tested for 150 gr/.270win bullets under 52 gr producing 2782fps(this is the slowest velocity powder according to their data). All these are max loads according to nosler 5th. They don't give load data for the IMR4831 with 150gr bullets but you can use sub +1 of H4350 data and be pretty safe (48-52 H4350 is listed). Start on the low end and work up slowly till you reach your max or accuracy declines.

FYI, above is a powder burn chart link.

Best of Luck
