It's embarrassing to admit but yes I shot my F-1 Chrony on Sunday with the Whelen, a 225 AccuBond right through her I did. She was DRT. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would do such a stupid thing. There were parts everywhere!

I need to call the people at the factory and tell them their product doesn't hold up very well under stress conditions! Anyway got a new one ordered and on it's way.

Ouch, I'm sure it happens quite often. The one you had was old and needed replacing anyway, right? :)

    I hit one of the aluminum wire rod on my Beta Chrony once and the light diffuser on my Pact also.

I've beat you to it, Don. I've shot two Chrony's at this point, and the ears have been trimmed at least three times. Actually, I've never hit the Chrony with a bullet, but media and/or powder have drilled through the electronics twice. Consequently, if you send them the old Chrony, they do give you a discount on a new one.

Did you recover the bullet?

Sorry for your loss buddy.

Sorry for your loss!

Hilarious Title. I was expecting a pic of an elk or bear.
I am afraid to say, "how in the world can this happen". If I do, I just know I am going to shoot mine too.

With the chronys you do have to be just 4-6 inches from the eyes.

How do you field dress them  and do you have cook them slow. I am sorry but I always thought that I would be the first one to do that on the forum.

Blessings,
Dan

I know how that goes.

Awhile back I was range Boss, up Home, and it was on a Sunday. Not too many shooters were there. Along about 4pm this guy came in and set up on #3, and set up his crony, to shoot over. He must of been working up a load, because he set up on sand bags. He had a 5 target, target, and he did not shoot at all of them. When he was done shooting, I asked him if I could fire the '8' over his machine. He told me "sure". I had a good load with a 200 grain bullet, that would put 3 of them in a nickle at 100 yards. But I had never known how fast it was going. So I go to the pickup and get my rifle. Now I never use the bench, I always lay prone beside it, off my bi-pod and sling. But he had everything set up to use the bench. So I threw my feet down, wrapped up in the sling, and found a target. 1st shot, 3051, 2nd shot 3049, then 3rd shot, crony. I was shooting at the upper right, and noticed there was no holes on the bottom left. So I tightened up my sling and aimed at the bottom left... No only did I hit it, I scattered it half way to the 50 yard line.

I never had had enough money to buy one of those for myself, but that day I bought him one.

All your comments are just to humorous. I was shooting three rifles on Sunday. Finished the 30-06, took the 300 RUM off the rest and rear bag, set the Whelen in place and was making adjustments. Kept looking through the scope and it seemed like there was a little glare but I could still see the target. The sun was pitched in my directions somewhat but I still was getting good readings from the chrony.
Touched off the Whelen, had instant results. Frayed wires. Plastic parts, GONE!

See Don, told you that Whelen puts everything down hard. Don't feel too bad. I was shooting ste at 300 yards sitting with a sling on Sunday. Well, the Whelen drew blood, my blood. It was a decent nick on my forehead but heck, it was just letting me know what it's got! Scotty

I hit my Chrony with the lowly 7.62x 25 out of a CZ52 handgun and it was a one shot kill DRT.
The .35 Whelen is too much gun, definite overkill.
You could get away with using a smaller caliber.

Hey Scotty, you got to hang onto those thumpers :) I got scope bite for the first time last year when I shot my God son's laupa. That has some ooch!!!

Blessings,
Dan

Must be something about the 35W...

A friend once nicked the housing on my chrony with his 35W, but it still worked. He said he'd buy me a replacement, and keep this one. I said OK... The next shot hit the display screen dead center and did a good job scattering parts.

I've always had a fear of doing just that.....and it's worse when others are shooting through it.

So far, knock on wood, no fatalities. Sorry for your loss.

Scotty, I got blooded by my .45-70, Butler Creek, scope cap lever. Centerpunched my nose and drew blood! This is the first time that has happened for awhile. I am going to remove the caps on that rifle and on the .340 for when I shoot at the range.
