I killed my first mule deer a week ago with my .338 Win Mag using a 225gr AB. The shot wasn't perfect (it was 255 yds) and I double lunged him behind the left shoulder. He gave a big kick when hit and he literally walked about 20 yds and fell over in full view.

Details:
Win Model 70 stainless .338 Win Mag, Nosler 225 AB bullet, 71.5gr IMR 4350, Fed GM 215M, once fired Win brass, 3.40" OAL @ 2862 fps

Congratulations sir! Nicely done. Nothing like a high-country hunt... Awesome!

Scott,

Congratulations on a nice Mule deer. You did a great job!
Glad the 225 gr AB worked well for you.

Thank you for the comments everyone!!

Rich - I hunted in WY a few miles out of Yellowstone NP with Wapiti Ridge Outfitters. We were 7 for 7 on the deer/hunters and our camp was at 8500 ft. We hunted down to 7500 and as high as 10,200.

Awesome Muley Scott. Sounds like the mighty 338 is racking up a fare amount of game for us this year. Scotty

Congratulations on a great mule deer. Can`t see how the shot wasn`t perfect if 20 yards is all the farther the deer went. Sounds like a good shot. Congratulations, again.

Congrats thats a fine mule deer this year was the first time out west for me I got a antelope in Wyoming and I hope to go mule deer hunting in Wyoming next year or the year after

Good Job Scott and Nice deer! I dropped my first Mulie this year with an AB as well.
