I got my first Remington heading to my FFL.

It's not that I've never handled or shot a Remington bolt action rifle, I have. I've just never paid money for one. Now being that I can't get my Winchester Model 70 to shoot like I'd like it to I opted to try a Remington 700P in .300 Win Mag.

Wish me luck because if this rifle shoots it will be my main hunting rifle. I'll have a 25/06 and the .300 Win Mag as my two rifle combo for all North American game. I like the 25/06 but wanted something with a little more oomph downrange. I'm thinking I can develop a long load that won't fit the magazine for this rifle giving me a one shot bolt gun for those really long applications. We will have to wait and see.

It should work well. Congrats and let us know how it turns out, a 25-06 and 300 WM combo covers a lot of different hunting.

Most of the heavy barreled Remington's shoot 1/2" with a good load. Some do even better. I have a buddy that has a .308 that hovers around 1/4" if he does his part.

Bullet seating depth to the lands will likely be the determining factor in cartridge max OAL. The magazine box is plenty long enough to accept just about any bullet to be seated out as far as the lands will allow. Haven't taken it apart to measure accurately, but the box in my 700 7mm Rem Mag is about 3.7" long.

I've had really good luck with the several Remington M700s I've bought through the years. Still need another one or two.... BT

I have been shooting a 300 Win Mag since 1970. It's my go to rifle, and my most accurate big game rifle. Mine loves full loads of H-4350, with most any 180 gr. bullet. Probably the most accurate bullet is the 180 Sierra BT. Hunting is the PT , a great deer and elk cartridge. Several of the RL powders will also work well. Good luck keep us posted !

I have 3 Remington 700s, two 06's and a .35 Whelen and the mahzine in all three will accept a .375 H&H cartridge with a bit of room to spare. Your magazine will be more than long enough.

Usually the heavy Rem's shoot well.
As for the sporters.......it is like Russian roulette.

Thank you.
I am eagerly awaiting, with anticipation that makes me all a twitter, the arrival of my new plinker.

I'll drop te rifle off in a couple of weeks to have the optics mounted and then proceed to start breaking it in. After that I'll shoot various loads for group.

I'm thinking this might be a good one, liking the way it handles, for my style of shooting.

Got my Talley Scope Rings today.
Next stop, drop rifle off at the Gunsmith for lapping and mounting. Then I'll start breaking it in.

I'm going to put the Minox ZA5 3-15x42 that's on my Winchester on this rifle for now and later I'll buy another scope. I'm planning to sell the Model 70 to a co-worker without the scope and rings. Then I'll put the Minox on my .308 unless I'm really liking it on the .300 Win Mag Remington.

Don't seat your hunting bullets next to the lands except Bergers and I am not crazy about Bergers in a magnum unless you are shooting game at distance. Hunting bullets are not match bullets even if it is a cup core hunting bullet much less bonded or monolithic. Hunting bullets in the 300 Win Mag like a jump so they obturate better in sealing the bore and setting up in the bore better. Can't wait for your results at the range. Remington rifles do shoot good.

Rifle is at the Gunsmith's.
He wasn't happy, or impressed with the fact that Remington had parkerized the bore. He did like the trigger however. We will just have to wait and see how it shoots.

WOW!! I didn't know they were doing that now??? I am not a gun smith and I am not sure I would like that either. It should not take long for the bore to be clear of the parkerizing, or maybe your gunsmith will hand lap the bore. Still looking forward to your shooting results.

That is strange. I don't believe I've witnessed this before.
