I have been looking for just the right rifle in .308 for awhile... Compact, wood stock, but I know its got to be a tackdriver too!
I have been watching a rifle for over a year in the Green Bay, WI Gander Mountain store... 8)
It appeared to be a custom rifle built on a Sako action, gorgeous wood stock, and a nice compact Douglas Match grade 20" bbl.... a set of Conetrol mounts and a flawless Leupie 3X9X40 Vari X II...It was purchased from an older gent and started out 18 mos ago at $995.00
Yesterday the manager finally relented to a price of $575... The Smith is a friend and told me the action /barrel are worth a lot more alone!
This turns out to be a 1957 vintage L 579 Deluxe Hunter (English Walnut stock)...someone swapped out the std 22" tube and put the Douglas bbl on....I am ECCSTATIC!!! The metal is close to 100% and the stock has a few scratches about the swivel studs....
These PICS ARE HORRIBLE this stock is a Wby Crown level  ...I will post some good outdoor ones soon!
