Had a couple of clients, one after the other, for one-on-one training sessions today. The morning started out crisp, about 35 degrees and warmed up as it became a cloudless, sunny day. Glorious!

Went through about a half a brick of .22's, a box of .45's, oddly, some .32's, a few .45 Colts and a few magazines of 5.56mm.

Good fun, and got 'em shooting pretty good. We shot paper, we shot steel. All of it at modest range. Never know what all a student will bring to the range, and it was fun to see & shoot the little old H&R .32 revolver, which literally had no kick when shooting the full wadcutter ammo.

Interesting day, mostly spent on modest range shooting drills for self-defense. And reinforcing a lot of safety pointers.

I hope everyone got out to enjoy some sunshine & gunsmoke!

I was testing some R-33 loads in my Edge this morning and shot a .191" group with 100gr and a 300gr SMK at around 3000fps. It was nice today with very little wind. I got to shoot yesterday too but it was windy the whole time and the mirage got bad as soon as the sun came up a bit. I still shot 655yds and as bad as the conditions were I still shot a little under MOA with both my 7-300wm and 6.5-300wm.

...what is this mystical, mythical RL-33 you speak of???

...spent my Sunday watching snow & cows blow past the window, & building elk chili...

Way to get out Guy!

Pretty nice this weekend, figured id get in on the fun and find a load for my ruger target 223 with 53g vmaxs and IMR -8208XBR.

25.6g put 6 shots under a dime at right at 3300fps.

Also rang some steel out to 500 with the 223/40g vmax combo and the 25/06 out to 600 with 100g nbts.

I missed the 1K plate with jakes last 140 amax round from his super accurate 6.5 SAUM...somehow managed to hit right at bottom missing the plate...he said it was ready to go so I still say he messed with the turrets haha.

All in all pretty dang nice weekend for some shooting around here. Sunny and 65 :)

Btw Nathan thats a phenomenal group from your EDGE, moving right along as well!!

Try not to post to much more of those or ill have to think about building one of them again lol.

Agree, one heck of a group, particularly for such a powerful rifle!

One shooter of mine had never taken the time to play with a couple of hundred rounds of .22 and a set of swinging metal gongs before... Dang, he had a lot of fun!

He'd also never shot an AR-15 or a 1911 before. Wants at least one of each now.

I should get a sales commission from the local gunshops.

Enjoy guys, the world is yours.

Edge's are accurate but the recoil with 300gr bullets keeps me from being consistently accurate with mine like I am with my smaller guns. Granted I haven't hardly shot it in the last 6 months so that has something to do with it too. Getting 3000fps out of it is kind of cool though.

All these reports are stirring the hunting juices. It doesn't feel like spring, yet; but the sun is shining. Nathan, that is an enviable group, to be sure.

That is just funny, Guy. Amazing how some range time can become so addictive so quickly.

It's pretty much spring here Mike. It's suppose to be 60 or so today and almost 70 tomorrow. Bear hunting is just around the corner. We just lost out rock chuck hunting spot so we have to go look for another next time out.

It was -19 C (-2 F) when I got up this morning. However, when spring arrives, it will do so suddenly. We've had a pretty mild winter; it looks as if it wasn't too hard on the wildlife. I'm seeing a fair number of deer, elk and moose whenever I go for a drive. Bears won't be out for another month or so, especially in the higher elevations. However, I want to be ready when they do come out. I'm working up a load with 300 grain A-Frames for my 9.3X64 Brenneke and focusing again on several rifles that are either unblooded or underused (7X57 Mauser, .284 Win., .30-06 Springfield). These rifles just need to tag some game this year.

That's the only problem with collecting too many guns.....too many go unused or unbloodied. I need to work up some loads with 285 Amax's in my Edge and then do a water jug test. Those might be my bear bullets this year. If I can shoot them over 3100fps like another guy is doing then it will be a rather large butt whooping on the receiving end. If not I may try some 230 Bergers at 3100fps in my 30-338 Norma Imp. And then there is always the stand by 458 Lott :). Too many choices and too few of tags.

I here you Mike it is time to get out and get some range time in. But it is darn hard when it is minus 20 or in that vicinity. This morning was only -15c but tonight again they are predicted -22c.
PS. That is a very good group with that Edge congratulations!!

Blessings,
Dan

Good stuff fellas, I was teaching a hunter safety class Saturday.
I did send a couple 250 gr AB's out of my 338 RUM at 3000 fps down range,
shooting water jugs for the students and demonstrating the power of a bullet at 180 yds.

Nathan, the 338 Edge is shooting awesome. Your 300 gr AB's at 3000 fps is impressive. I could only get 2700 fps out of the 338 RUM so I went back to the 250 gr AB at 3000 fps and a flatter trajectory.

It was SMK's Jim. I have almost 200 of the AB's but the velocity is way down on them because of the long bearing surface. I'm surprised not much has been mentioned with the 285 Amax's yet but they should be a pretty good bullet. Unfortunately they have just as long of a bearing surface as the SMK's so I doubt they can be run more than about 50-75fps faster. I think they have enough mass to do some real damage even if they are fragile like other Amax's. Hopefully Yogi get's to see one up close and personal. If they prove real explosive in water jugs some rock chucks might get to visit with them first.

Guy,
Good on ya for getting that bloke out, and the others, and bringing more folks to the shooting table.
Idaho,
Great group and what I'm trying to accomplish with my .338 Win Mag.
It's going to be in the 80's tomorrow so I'll head to the range in the morning before it gets too hot. What's this winter you all speak of?
