I'm having troubles finding the answer to this one.....
A short chambered barrel usually comes .050" short...... so the chamber can be finish reamed by the smith....
how short would a standard chamber have to be to accomodate an ackley reamer?
example: If I find a short chambered shilen 243 win on ebay for a good price, will I be able to ream it to 243AI? or will I have to set it back a thread?
arent the ackley versions a tad shorter to provide a crush fit? .004" if I'm not mistaken?
so if the standard chamber is in fact .050" short, an ackley reamer would work just fine right?
I dont mean to verbalize it in such a confusing manner...
hopefully someone here understands..
thanks!!!

Yes a short chambered barrel is short enough to run an AI finish reamer to spec

You really only need to set back a standard chamber a few .001" to run a Ackley reamer in them.
