How about this one!?

Looks as if the wildcatters are focused. I don't see it supplanting the 338 WM, but you can never tell. It could make a fine cartridge, however.

Unfortunately I think it's been done. 338 rum is basically the same thing

I'll gladly take RUM performance out of a 3.34 round. It'll fit nicely in a CRF Win 70! Case capacity is stated as 98.5gr of water. Estimated 2850fps with a 250gr bullet and probably 3000 to 3100fps with a 225gr.

...I'd still go w/ the .338 Norma Mag, shorter case, more capacity, more consistent powder column & burn (in theory, ok???), open up the bolt face, tweek the mag a hair, & go out & make something seriously kilt...

G'Day Fella's,

Muleman, Thank You for posting that .338 Wildcat link!
That is rather interesting!

As the good gents above have already mentioned, it may have a role but only time will tell?
In the meantime, I'll stick with my .338WM, .340 W/bee and .338Lap Mag for the moment.

Regards
Homer

I am pretty sure it is a clone to the 338/375 Ruger. I will check, but Brian's 338/375 Ruger is just about the same H20 capacity. I know my Newton runs right around 95 grains as well. Pretty close in performance..

Heck, someone needs to do a 338/35 Newton! Long neck and plenty of room in a Model 70 magazine!

Scotty,
I have Win 70 in .338WM with 26" tube and a 26 Nosler reamer with interchangeable pilot. It could happen pretty easily. Pick up a Hornady 338 neck sizer die and a RUM body die and I think I'd be in business. Still waiting on 26 Nosler brass though.

Scott,

The 338 RUM is an impressive round. I'm getting 3000 fps with 250 gr bullets. The 210 gr PT is 3200 fps. It shoots flat and hits hard.

Either way, those big 338's are awesome stuff in the elk woods. I love the payload they deliver and most of them pretty accurate.

Sounds like it would be close to the 338-375 Ruger. The 25" 5R Bartlein on mine runs 250 SMKs at 2855 FPS and had them at 2980 FPS before hitting max. The hunting load is the 225 AB at 3065 FPS and had those at 3120 before hitting max.
