I just came back from almost a month of deer hunting in East NC. I used my new 264 Win mag and 130 gr Accubonds to take 3 big body, 170 to 190 lb on the hoof bucks and one medium size doe.
The load that I used was 66.5 grs Retumbo and it pushes the 130 AccuBond average 3350 fps from the 27 3/4 inch barrel. These deer were taken from 98 yards out to 275 yards and all were one shot drop them in their tracks shots. The bullet really did a number on the vitals like a ballistic tip does but all but one were complete through and through exits about the size of a golf ball. The one that did not exit was from one of the bucks that was shot facing me just slightly quartering at 111 yards. The bullet traveled through its left front shoulder and was found in the right ham. The bullet was a perfect mushroom with the front part of the jacket peeled back over the base which still held the lead core and the recovered bullet weight was 71 grs. Now that is a real bullet that will perform like that at those velocities. Oh! As for rack size on these deer they were two 6 point and one 5 point. They just don't have the jeans to make big racks in the area that I hunt but the bodies are getting bigger every year. I took 9 deer in all this year. You can get all the doe permits you want, $10.00 for two permits. I have enough meat to feed the tribe this year.
