I've been thinking of building a .270 WSM on a standard length action. The whole purpose of the build is to run some Matrix bullets their VLD's show BC in the .73 & .78 with 166 and 175 grains. I just think they would be too long to use in a standard WSM action and would need the extra room to seat the bullets of the standard action. Of course I'd need a faster than 1:10 twist as well to stabalize these bullets.
I know a few guys are running a .270 AM to use this bullet but I think the WSM case. The cheaper supply of WSM brass is a plus IMO. CEB has some mono metal bullets with pretty impressive BC's as well in the .277 bore.
