New guy here with a quickload question. I'm using 4166 in my 7/08 with 140 gr prohunters and getting good results. Load data is only available from Hodgdon as far as I can tell. I would like to try this powder in my 8tw 6xc with 85 tsx's but there is no published data available. I am wondering if for those of you that use this program if there is a "hillbilly equivalent" for 4166 that one might use to get close. Seems as though 4166 is very similar to varget and 4064 in burn rate but 4166 is a double base powder while the other two are not. RL-15 is also close and double base. What do you think? As soon as (or IF) quickload includes the new IMR powders I will be purchasing a copy.

I just picked up a pound of 4166 and the new 2016 hogdon pamphlet. I'd like to say that I can "hillbilly" cross reference it but the info in the pamphlet is pretty conflicting. In 708 and 308 with lighter bullets it takes more 4166 than 4064 to get "like" results but as you go towards heavier bullets the roles reverse. In 243 their relationship seems more consisant, But, with certain bullets the difference between the two can be as much as 3 grains. It seems with monolithic bullets you can use alot more 4166. Maybe it isn't as fussy about starting pressures or something.
It almost seems like 4166 is a powder with its own properties.
And...being you referenced quick load I just wanted to say my version is fairly new but my lots of varget seem alot hotter than quickloads forecasts so quick load doesn't always hit the nail on the head.
All that said I plan on pretty much sticking to hogdens data and uses for now. I guess I will be chronoing loads though and seeing how close they come out. I can't think a guy would get in trouble working up to the same speeds he gets with powders like varget and 4064. Alot of times when I work up I use federal brass....its soft enough to give feedback pretty quickly if I start stepping over the limit.
