What is the interior mag length on a Rem 700 standard action(30-06)? Just trying to do some preloading for my 280AI. It is the only 700 I have and it's at the smith right now.

It's long Scott. I got mine throated way long the lands with the 160AB is at 3.480" mine are loaded at 3.435". Got some 175 ABLR today and loaded the lands are at 3.535" I'm starting at 3.490" for loading. At 3.535" I tested for mag function and it will work fine.

Thanks guys! I want to load up some break in loads and then some 150gr ABLRS for my soon to be inbound 280AI. When I get the rifle I'll take measurements and adjust loads if needed. I'll start the loads at mag length; probably at 3.575 and wait for the rifle.

I don't think you will have enough bullet to stretch it out that far. I got some stuff posted on the 175's.

Thanks Jake,
I'll make sure that I keep good bearing surface in the neck. I want to keep them as long as possible till I can take actual measurements in the rifle. It's always easier to set them deeper than to pull them out>

Can you send in a dummy? If its a standard throat you won't even come close to using your magazine capacity. I throated mine for 160's way out I could have gone longer as well.

That's what I would do, figure out what bullet I wanted to use and send a dummy loaded to however long you want to run them.

I use 3.62" as my Max Mag length for Model 700 LA rifles. This provides me a few thousandths error for full confidence in function. I think my longest Max to Lands distance I've found on the 4 M700s I load for is ~3.55". Like others have stated, you have plenty of room, send a dummy round in with your receiver.
