Picked up my M1 Garand from the FedEx Place the other day. I bought it from the CMP. It is an H&R Service Grade Special, which means collectors grade metal in a new production stock. It is a 4.7 million serial number, born in April 1954. All numbers matching NEVER been fired! I have lots of 150gr bullets and a couple pounds of W748 to fuel this thing. I'm going to fit the parts properly and refinish the stock with Tru-Oil. The wood looks like it may have some character to it.

Way cool. Congratulations on picking up a real piece of Americana.

Well, its not in unfired form anymore! Just got back from a quick test of a load I came up with. I just guessed with the sights and fired the rifles first 16 rounds. I couldn't have set the sights better if I had a laser bore sighter! Doesn't shoot to bad for peep sights at 100yds.

Load is 150gr Sierra over 46gr of W748 and a CCI 250 LRM
Average MV 2630fps.

A good, safe load that functions the rifle and shoots well.

Just think I once owned a Winchester sniper modle garand tuned by the AMU that I traded it for an out board motor because it was tooo heavy to hunt with. It even had Redfield target sights on it and was set up for High power matches. It was a Col's private rifle and he was being stationed over seas and couldn't take it with him. I gave him $75.00 for it and I'm still kicking my self for getting rid of it.

Pretty good accuracy for that Garand! You've done quite well, SE. TD, we've all made such boners at least once (and often more frequently than we wish to remember).

Outstanding!

What a great ol' rifle. I've often thought of getting one - but - well heck... Just never did.

Enjoy that!

Very nice and it looks like a real shooter! Way cool! That is one awesome rifle right there!

Thanks guys. I started soaking boiled linseed oil into the stock, and it is looking much better. It's actually not a bad piece of walnut
