Just came back from my first SCI show. Overwhelmed was the only word I could think of to describe this show. I stopped by the Kimber booth and looked at an 84L with the French Walnut.(Because the $34,000 custom rifles were a dollar or two beyond my budget) I happened to mention to Dwight VanBrunt that they could sell me another Kimber if they would chamber it in .280. He told me to look on the other side of the barrel, when I did it read ".280 Ackley Improved" Said they should be out by the end of summer to the shelves. It is in their catalog in the Montana also.

It will be great to see this cartridge picked up by a few other manufacturers. I predict that it will supersede or supplant the 280 Remington in time if that is done.

I wondered how long it would be before sombody else picked up the 280 AI. Dr, Mike is right I think, this round will become very popular. I have sure fallen in love with mine.

That is great nrew.
Now if Winchester and/or Savage wwere to offer the 280 AI, Remington will follow and it will take off.
A good start would be a Federal offering with 140 gr AB and 160 gr AB or PT.

Heres hoping......

I've been eyeballing the 280AI for about a year now... in the M48 Sporter (or now a Kimber) it would be the stuff.

Kinda makes me wish I could rebarrel my .300WSM to one...but alas the action size is all wrong. BLEH!

You could always stick a 7 Whizzum tube on it.

I'm gonna start scouring the auction sites and local gunshops. Of course the two Montanas I want are both disco'd... 84 in .260 and 8400 in 7 WSM.

Nosler has good data for a 26" tube; what reduction in velocity could somebody expect in a 24" tube. That is probably the length that Kimber will produce a .280AI in.

muleman,

My M700 24" Hart barrel 280 AI can do over 3000 fps with the 160 gr AB and 3240 fps with the 140 gr AB.
