Well guys it looks like I am going to have to use my CDL for the last 2 hunts of the season as I just got a email stating the my defiance action is still not in. So my Whelen won't be ready in time  oh well all good things you have to wait for
The old 270 win has done me good in the past and will help these next 2 hunts.

That's too bad. Always a disappointment when your hoping to use the new toy and have to wait until next year.

It'll be that much better when you get get it though Dan! Can't wait to see your Whelen but that danged 270 of yours seems to work just fine! Scotty

As dealing with several custom projects in the past myself,,,,it may not help. But I remind myself, patience is a virtue,,,,,and just sometimes anticipation of getting is nearly as good as getting itself,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ok I don't believe that crap either,,,LOL
Thought I would try and ease the suffering

These things always seem to take a long time to come together, the guns they built for me were the same way hopefully you will get it before spring. It will be worth the wait :)

That is a terrible, sad thing, having to use a .270 CDL for hunting...

You are going to have to do a detailed review of the Defiance action (us addicts need our fix!). I've been thinking about a tacticool/match build in one of the 'standard' case 6.5s (.260 or 6.5x47 Lapua) or a beltless 7 mag (RSAUM, WSM or Dakota) and the Defiance action is on the top of the list.

I shouldn't have looked at their wedsite

Dan,

The wait will be worth it. I've shot quite a few rifles built on the Defiance action. Accuracy of 0.1 inch is not unusual, even with my eyes--MY EYES! The boys build a good product and you'll be proud to own it. I do know that they are working full tilt. They just added a new machinist, and he is very good. The lathes are running constantly and each bench is full.

Thanks Guys, I guess I let it build a little to much. I can get sub.5 with the CDL. I increased the powder half a grain this year after at least 20 years at 53.5 and lengthened the bullet and it shot better than before which was real good in the first place.
I have all the confidence in the world with my 270 Win hey if it was good enough for SIR JACK it should be good enough for a Sask Boy

Blessings,
Dan

I think you'll do just fine with that tack-driving .270 rifle!

Think of all the fun you'll have this year, working up bone-smashing loads for the .35 Whelen - then nothing will be safe next year.

Have a particular bullet, or bullets in mind for the .35 ?

Yes, I really think the 225gr AB is going to be my bullet. I will likely also try the 250 PT. but I am going to have Mike do the break in and see what he can come up with for a load using the 225 :)

Blessings,
Dan

That will be interesting to see what Mike will come up with. If he has Varget and RL 15 it should be a short search for a good load.

I do like Varget and RL15, but I've had good success with A2520 in the Whelen. I'm certain Dan is not going to be disappointed. Consequently, I should get my Whelen back in a week or two. It is crowned and bead blasted; the extractor slot has been cut. Now, for final assembly.

Haven't tried that powder but I did use AA 2015 for a time and it did really well. Used 53 -53.5 gr with quite a few different 225 gr bullets and it always delivered great accuracy and speeds ranging from 2660- 2725 fps depending on the bullet.

I assume the rifle is an RMR being built at Corlanes, it's good to here they are that busy. I beleive the wait will be more then worth it Saskboy. We will need pics of the completed project.

The 250 PT and 59-60grs of RL15 will run out around 2600 in most guys rifles and oh man, it has been really accurate in two rifles I know of. I'm using RP cases and CCI250's. No need for the mag primers, but back when I started with the Whelen that's what I had and they work.

Those rifles sound excellent. I can't wait to see the pictures. Scotty

Yes I have complete confidence that my rifle will be next to none
And I know a couple of friends that will place all my photos on the forum
