Hi guys
still playing with my 260rem i bulit with a Shaw 24" 1n9 twist barrel on the savage action.
im not happy with the 120BT's 130 AB's or the 129 sst.

so i was thinking about some 100gr partions with IMR 4064

looking in the nosler book it says this load should be around 3135 not worried about speed. right now anything 2750 and up im going to be happy with.

i was wondering if anybody else had used this load for hunting deer and hogs with good accuracy good quick clean kills?

I have no idea about the 100's, but man, it seems very 25-06 like with speeds like that. I wouldn't imagine a PT at that speed letting you down at all though.

What happened with the other bullets? Not shooting well or just not what you are looking for? Since you aren't concerned with speed, maybe try the 140 BT's. They seem to be pretty accurate for me. Different case, but still seem pretty good.

i just cant get a group smaller than .995 at 100yards

and the load thats giving me that group is compresed. not showing any pressure signs, but still to new to reloading to feel comfortable shooting a compressed loads

i have only been reloading for 4 years.

If you are at max listed loads or under it is perfectly safe to use a compressed load, no worries there. I have shot loads like that in my 260, and 35 Whelen for that matter, and never had a problem. I have a box of those 100 gr Partitions right now but no 260 sold the old one and the new one is on order. You may be able to work up to Nosler's max with IMR 4064 so don't just stop at the mid level load. I plan on trying Big Game, Varget and H 4350 in that order will let you all know how it goes but that won't likely be until summer.

gerry
i just planed on starting in the area of the middle load and working up and down from there.

and the other loads were still what was listed in books
thanks for the info

What is the load that has shot the best for you so far? Maybe you can still tweak it a bit more for accuracy.

120 NBT over 46.5 of H4831sc taken from the hornady manual COAL of 2.799 best group @ 100 yards is .995" with win lg rifle primers.

i do understand that this group is MOA just hoping i could get better?

Cooker, have you tried adjusting your seating depth? I read through your other post and it looked like all of your loads were seated to the same depth. I am newer to reloading than you but I can tell you first hand, your seating depth plays a vital role in accuracy. I had a gun that i measured the distance to the lands improperly and was having trouble holding an 8" group @ 100yds. Another gun of mine would not hold a group less than 2.5" untill I seated my bullets .090 shorter than the recomended book length. A black Sharpie woorks really well on your bullets to assist in finding the distance to your lands with a fired case, and a little rubbing alcohol will shine them back up after you take your measurements. Just make sure you check your measurements with more than one bullet. Each bullet will measure a little different. Good luck with your loads!

You might just need to tweak this load a bit, you may be close to perfection. I had a good load in the past with 48 gr H4831 sc and the 120 gr core lokt which was a pretty compressed load.

OK
Here is what I’m going to the range with next.
CONTROL load 120 NBT, 46.5 gr of H4831sc COAL 2.800 WLRP this was my best grouping load so far @ .995”
Load #1 120gr NBT 46.5 gr of h4831sc coal 2.790WLRP
Load#2 “ “ coal 2.780WLRP
Load #3 129gr sst 47.0gr of h4831sc coal 2.797WLRP
Load #4 129gr sst 47.0gr h4831sc coal 2.805WLRP
Load #5 barns 120 gr ttsx 41.0gr of IMR 4350 coal 2.775 WLRP
Load#6 “ “coal2.795 rem 9 ½
Load #7 Nosler part 100gr 41.0gr of imr 4064 rem 9 ½ COAL 2.796
Load #8 NAB 130gr 44.5gr of IMR4350 rem 9 ½ coal 2.795

I bought a browning composite stalker when hey first came out. I put a 3x9 Zeiss on it.

With 100 grain partitions I got 3300 fps and sub MOA groups.

Win 760 and RL17 will get you there.

I also loved the 125 PT @ 2900 fps.

A compact 25-06 !

Hopefully something will stand out for you. I was thinking today while I was at work, the bullet that has been the most consistantly accurate an all the 6.5mm rifles I have had is the Hornady 129 gr Spire Point. That could be another option for you, but something should work well for you with the loads you have already.

ok i have a very dumb question

is it possible for a rifle to not like boattail bullets?

because everything i have tryed has been a boattail design .

Well if it is dumb than so am I :) that was part of what I was thinking today at work while finishing drywall. I wonder what the others think of that question.

I don't think it is so much that some rifles don't like boattails as it is that because there are more angles, the technique employed to load boattail bullets can be more demanding. Everything else being equal, out to ~450 yards or so, flat base bullets will give better accuracy. It is with distance that the boattail bullet begins to pull away.

Sometimes it is good to try a FB bullet, just to see if it is something the rifle likes. I haven't had too much trouble getting either to shoot but a PT or Speer FB bullet might be a good option to try outta the rifle. Speer has the 140 Deep Curl and they are pretty cheap as well..

120 gr nosler BT
h4831sc 46.5
WLRP
2.790
shot a .598 3 shot group at 100yd. im pretty sure i cant egt any better than that
