Since I'm having so much fun reading the anguished elk hunter responses to the other elk thread... Here's some more we saw at the Oak Creek feeding station last week:

I'd take him!

thats almost as many elk as I have seen in Washingon in the three years I have lived here. !!!!!! I do have a couple of little meadows just east of the beach where they come in real consistent, except during elk season.

The bull in the first picture has been eating more than his share. That guy looks like 800 lbs. plus.

Guy -
Thanks for posting the pics. What great majestic animals. I'm not getting to see much for wild life right now, so it sure helps keep the fire burning for next fall! I didn't see any bulls that I wouldn't have taken.

I love elk..................they sure taste good. I really got to get over there. That's awsome. Are those mostly Roosevelt elk?

Corey

Them are are rocky mountain elk on the dry side. The roosevelts live on the wet side.

Guy,

Great pictures, thanks for posting them for us.

Great pictures Guy. I am going through animal withdrawal. I haven't so much as seen a deer since I have been here in NH. Seen some turkeys, but no deer. Hoping to chase elk again this year. Been too long since I have ate some proper elk loins! Scotty

The only elk I saw last fall was a very impressive 6x6 bull, but that was during the mule deer season, so I couldn't touch him.

Later I went out for the late elk season, and found only tracks. Most of the area here locally is "spike only" and I haven't seen many of them either. I'll try to draw a cow tag this year, have been unsuccessful in that draw the past couple of years.

Glad you guys enjoyed the photos. My wife and I sure enjoyed hanging out and watching the elk for a few hours at and near the winter feeding station.

Guy,

Only a hunter can truly enjoy hanging out to watch the wildlife. These noble animals cause us to dream great dreams, and that soothes the soul.

They get absolutely no hunting pressure out on the Nuclear sight (Hanford). They get hit more by cars crossing 240 than they do wandering off the sight and getting shot.

Corey

Nuclear elk. It is amazing what U235 can do for antlers. Did you see the third eye on the farthest elk?
