Naked or Coated?

Getting ready to buy the 55 grain pills for my .243 but before I do I want to know what people in the know think about the naked variety vs. the lubalox covered variety.

What would you shoot?

If you plan on making many trips to prairie dog town I would say go with the coated. Anything to keep fouling down is a big plus when shooting hundreds of rounds in a few days.

I moly coat the naked 55 gr and shoot them out of my .243. Can shoot hundreds of rounds with no noticable degradation in accuracy.

I have considered many times coating my 223 rounds. For this summers loads I have decided to do it.

What brand of moly do you use?

I use the midway moly. Just put your bullets in a tumbler used only for moly coating and turn it on. It is amazing how little of the stuff is required.

It's kinda messy but I'm a beleiver in its benefits.

The nice thing with Lubalox is that you can shoot the coated version and then switch to non coated no problems. It is always a good idea to clean your barrel, but you will notice that it isn't messy like moly.

I've tryed Barnes VLC's in both my 243 & 22-250. Couldn't get anything that even resembeled a group. Both guns will drive tacks when not shooting moly bullets. I gave up on them but I know a few guys that shoot them in 22-250's & 220 swifts w/ 26" barrels & they swear by them. Both that I tryed them with had 24" poles. Don't know if that would be the difference or not. After 1 1/2 lbs. of powder I was done trying. Good Luck!
