New 6mmBR and a couple of loads

G’day Folks,
Been tinkering with a new 6mmBR I had built on an old Vanguard action. Mainly a parts-gun with a nice new 1-7”t Hardy stainless barrel. BBL length is 21.5”.

Spun up a couple of nice accurate loads with a very minimum of tuning. Thought I’d share.

105g Hdy BTHP
28.9g AR2206H / H4895
OAL 2.325” (0.005” jam)
Speed 2725fps

87g Hdy Vmax
30.5g AR2206H / H4895
OAL 2.225” (0.005” jam)
Speed 3020fps

Both loads are consistently around 0.5 to 0.6 MOA which is exceptional for me considering I don’t shoot bench or target.
Both loads are using Lapua brass and Rem 7.5 BR primers.

I haven’t even bedded the barrel and the scope is a Chinese made 3.5-10x cheapie!

Have to say I’m very happy with this budget build.

Anyway sharing mainly for the sake of anyone looking for some load data. Most of the data out there for this cartridge is around Varget / AR2208 so some might find interest in this.

Regards.

Bob

That is a pretty sweet looking rifle! I've always been pretty intrigued by the little 6 BR myself. Makes a nice varmint/target/1K plinker with the 105s

Wow. Very nice Bob.

I just got a little Howa 6mm CM I’m really loving a lot myself. The 6 BR is ultra cool and I LOVE that 105 Hornady. Just cannot whoop that bullet on paper or fur.

Took its first shot in anger last night too. A young fox off the verandah just over 200y away.

Yep Scotty as you know I shoot the Hdy BTHP in a variety of chamberings and weights. Pretty good on pigs and goats too if you’re sensible!

The fox above was nailed with the 87Vmax. It might just be the better choice out to 350y for predators and so on unless it’s real windy.

Nice rifle and nice shooting. I recently had a 6 BR built for me a few months ago with a 26 inch Bartlien barel in 8 twist. Shooting the 105 and 107 Bergers / Sierra's using Varget and CCI 450's. I havent been shooting it much yet, but last time it shot real nice but have not stretched it out at further ranges yet.

Nice looking rifle. I use the Hornady 105 in my 6BR with Varget and CCI 450 primers in Norma brass. Have some Peterson brass but haven't tried it yet. Used the 100 gr Berger but they quit making it. Try some Varget or RL15 if you can get some. All good. Dan.

Knocked over another Reynard just now, this time right on 245 yards. 30kph consistent wind left to right necessitated a bit of hold off. I’d say I got just a little lucky with the wind call as he was facing away and I did not have a lot of latitude for a body shot...

The 87g Vmax I find performs a lot more like a traditional light hunting bullet than a varmint bullet. Though velocity would have been below 2500fps at impact, it entered via the right shoulder and exited via the chest and only left a golf ball sized exit hole...

WBB I have some Varget and CCI 450’s. I’ll give them a whirl!

Also cobbled together a new load to share with you all this time with the 75g Vmax and H4895.

In truth the aggregate group size should have been lower because I pulled one shot way low on the left hand group. Still, sub 0.5moa in a strong wind over the tailgate of the truck is more than a shooter of my ability should expect!

31.7g H4895 / AR2206H
OAL 2.222” (0.005” jam)
