Looking for a reliable way to figure seating depth with my rifles. Tried the prescibed method in Nosler 5th, and couldnt get it to work in my Browining A-bolt. The bullet either pushed all the way into the casing, or stuck in the lands? Help.
Probable the fastest and most accurate method is with a Stoney Point
OAL gauge. These are available thru most good reloading shops or mail order thru major reloading distributors. Hope this helps
If you don't want to invest in a seating depth gauge, start with the recommemded max seating depth in the reloading manual and increase the depth 5-10 thousands at a time. Try working these loads through your action to insure the lengths are compatible with your chamber and magazine. Shoot these and determine if there is an effect on accuracy. In hunting loads, often the seating depth is limited by the length that the magazine will handle.
