This season I took an ~160 pound doe at about 60 yards with my 30-06 using ammunition loaded with the new Nosler CT Ballistic Tip. As I walked to the top of a hill, the deer was trotting in front of me from my left to my right. The round entered her front right shoulder. It hit ribs on both sides and exited her front left shoulder. She ran 75 feet and dropped.

Here's my question - maybe I'm wrong, but isn't this bullet supposed to dump all it's energy into the animal and stay inside?

Here's the reload data (for those interested):
Winchester 30-06 case
CCI 200 primer
Accurate Arms SRB-118 powder - 48 grains
Nosler CT Ballistic Silvertip - 150 grain
Velocity (according to AA) - ~2700 fps

In theory it is supposed to dump it's energy on impact, but since the redesign process a few years back it is a "bit" more controlled.

That being said, complete penetration is great! Most times you wouldn't see that performance at that close of a range into the shoulders.

Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick reply and explanation.

Does Nosler make a CT bullet for the 270 Winchester good for deer and bear? If so, can I expect similar results?
