The federal government is proposing to lift threatened species protections for Yellowstone grizzlies. This would permit hunts in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. Perhaps in the not-too-distant future, Americans will permitted to hunt the great bear again in the Lower forty-eight.

There needs to be some control of these species. I am sure it will be in very limited numbers but the fact that they are considering this as a population control means that at least some of the Fish and Game Departments have their heads in the right place.

I've hunted mule deer near Yellowstone. Grizzlies were on my mind and their tracks on the ground.

Ranchers in the area are seeing more and more of them, year after year...

Grizzly/man encounters are up, with deaths of both.

The population of grizzlies in the Yellowstone area is NOT endangered, based on my limited observations.

I think that is fantastic and I hope we get the chance to hunt them. It should be on a very limited tag basis, but yes it is way past due.
