I have a very fussy Model 100 Win. for port pressure only 9" from the bolt face. I am requesting a Quickload run for 2 powders : 45.7gr of TAC ; and 43.6gr AR-Comp, with 1% steps either side. Details :FC GM brass (overflow capacity fired 54.4gr H2O) ; 22" BL 150gr Horn. SP #3031; OAL 2.800" and .054" Jump .
The 45.7gr of TAC and Fed210 ( 2789f/s and ES =9f/s) nearly duplicates the port pressure of 46.0gr of H335 GI surplus with the same bullet .
If interested this FC brass weighs 177 to 178 gr , and has the same case capacity as LC15 , WCC14 , WCC13 . LC14 has 0.5 gr less capacity. I have found a few samples of the LC Pull Down brass with neck thickness variations of .001" . I have never had that problem with the FC brass , which has now moved on to a very accurate bolt action in 7mm08 .
Neither Load is max in the manuals or in my rifle.

Good luck with that Mod 100. Its always been a nice handling, swell looking rifle, to me. I had one in .243 that was an "OK" shooter, 1 3/4-2 1/4" with 100gr factory loads. I tried to have it bedded, etc and it didn't help, so down the road it went, ha. Back in 1972, at the Rod & Gun Club where I was stationed as a soldier, I handled one of the Mod 100 .308 "Carbines". Since I was under 21, my Captain would not sign for me to buy it. Typical. Those are worth a lot of money now. The .308 was what I always wanted in one, but they have always been high priced, the .243 was only $350, but it was a bust, even at that price. Hope yours does well for you pard! Oh yeah, I don't remember the powder/load but my BIL has always used the Sierra 150 SBT in his Mod 742 .308. It is wicked on those East Texas deer and hogs too! :)

You didn't give me velocity on the other one so I ran it at default.

Thanks Dwh for the excellent info. That 43.6gr charge of AR-Comp is listed on Alliant for 155gr Horn. VMax . I thought the pressure would be similar for the 150gr SP , with it's flat base. Preacher : thanks for your stories about your rifle. Mine has sentimental value : it was my dad's deer rifle. It killed lots of deer out to 200 yards . I have improved the accuracy somewhat by placing plastic shims on each side of the tang to take up side to side motion . I have shot 1" groups at 100 yards, just not as consistently as I would like. That AR-Comp is a proven performer in .223 , 60gr VMax in my bolt action . Maybe in 3 weeks the range will dry up for a new trial in .308 .

I have a fussy 308 carbine. Free floated the barrel, glass bedded the receiver & screws...Frustrating to be sure, but I landed on 180 BT's w/ RL-15. 7/8" groups at 2450 fps. Inside 200 yds it's MORE than enough for anything that might eat you.

gary- sounds like you got your rifle doing very well! My SIL has his dad's Mod 88 also in .308. Other than having a "somewhat spongey" trigger it is very accurate. There is a lot to be said for using any rifle/shotgun, etc with sentimental value. Very satisfying to my soul I know that, ha. I also handloaded that Hornady 150SP for a few friend's 30-06s. Wicked deer killer for sure. I shot it in the old Hornady "Frontier" .308 ammo in a Model 99 I had for awhile. It shot so well I didn't even handload for that particular rifle. Good luck to you Pard! :)

Gunner-is your "carbine" one of the older Mod 100s or a different rifle? I had one of the first Ruger 77 Ultralights" that was a pain- in recoil/face slap and to shoot accurately. I wasn't impressed with it at all. I traded it for a S&W Mod 29.

I shoot an M88 in 308. I understand I'm not dealing with semi auto port pressure, but have had extremely accurate results with 165gr Hotcor bullets and MR2000 powder. I tried boat tail bullets and did not have any luck.

Unfortunately last season my sling popped off while shouldering the rifle on a snowy hunt and the stock shattered at the web. This summer I have to get the new laminate milled and fitted.
