Question about Wby Mark V

I got a very good deal on a Weatherby Mark V at auction last month. Per the serial number gun was made by Howa in 1973. Beautiful gun and appears to been either unfired or nearly so. Bolt is silky but when feeding a cartridge the 2 spring loaded magazine retainers are very sharp edged and grate and gouge the brass.

Question: Would a slight breaking of the corner and polishing of the bottom edges of these 2 ears with emery cloth compromise retaining the cartridges and feeding?

I can't imagine how just breaking the edges would cause a problem. The rule of "Go Slow, you can always take off more material later" applies in spades here. I'd also oil the edges a bit afterward, or perhaps cold blue them with a cotton ball if they seem exceedingly bare? Just a little something to protect from corrosion in an area likely to get corrosive salts from our fingers (indirectly, off the rounds).

Thanks for the reply.
This is my first Mark V and the rest of the rifle is finished so well that I was very surprised at how gritty feeding a cartridge was and thought I should double check in case there was some reason I didn't know.
