trying to find a load using 180bt and retumbo for my #1 300win. :)

Oh by the way, welcome to the forum, I missed your first few post. Why Retumbo, is that all you have? It is not a very good choice for the 300Win and the 180gr bullet. Why not try RL-25, H1000, IMR7828 or RL-22 or even H4350. Just curious about you wanting to use Retumbo, it is kind of slow for that cartridge and bullet. Now don't get me wrong, you can use it but I think you will not achieve the velocities that you could with the others. Just a thought.

I am with bullet,

Retumbo is pretty slow for the .300 win mag with the 180. I am using slightly more than 70 grains of 4350 with stellar results for over 40 years!!!!!!!

i have a load worked up for rl-22 (76) and h-1000 (81) i have some retumbo and would like to try it when i get time. i might have to pick up some rl-25 one of these days and give that a try also.

Stick with the RL-22 and H1000 and I think you will get better results. RL-25 is cool in a 300Win Mag GB300wm really likes it in his Sako 300Win but he has a very long mag box and throat which allows him to use slower powders better because he can seat his bullets out farther and has greater case space for powder than a lot of 300Win rifles. RL-22 will be with in a few feet per second of RL-25 but does it with 2grs less powder which help those of us out who have the standard mag length in our 300Win mags. With your # 1 I would try RL-25 also and it should do well in your rifle especially if you have a long throated chamber, but even if you don't it will do well.

i have been playing with rl-22 the last month or so with the 165's but accuracy is so so (.75)and it is very temp sensative from what i can tell. velocities were all over from 40 to 80 degrees and the load i had worked with last fall 79.0 165bt are locking up my action in the 70 degree temps. this last pound i got must be a hot lot ??? rl-22 has been my all around powder for the last 3 years but i'm starting to look into others because of the temp problem and velocity swings.

I have been an avid RL22 believer in the 300 Win Mag. I was you all that turned me on to it and so far, it has been nothing but excellent. I know it may be a temp sensitive, so that is a detractor, but otherwise, it is very accurate, and since I am not shooting further than 500 yards, I can deal with it to some extent. I think if I work up some new loads for the 200gr bullets, I will try Retumbo or H1000 also. I will still try RL22, but I Would like to have one load, and be done with the 300 Win Mag and be done! Scotty
