Longwinters and I made final preparations for Michigan Firearm season today. I traded him my new Rem 700 LV .22-250 for (my original) Rem 700 CDL 7MM08.
Don't ask why we often trade back and forth...

Long had several 140 Accubonds loaded up but they were around MOA (at best)for me...(they shot 0.50" for him  )...so I decided to try a few other bullet choices. That rifle really liked large doses of H 4350...like 48-48.5grs...pushing very close to 3,000 fps

I loaded 5 each of; Hornady 139 SST, Hornady 139 INTL , Sierra SPT , 140 Accubonds and lastly, an old favorite the 140gr Nosler Solid base...

The 100yd results...all with 48.5gr of H 4350 and seated at SAMMI C.O.A.L. specs...

139 SSTs.... 1.89" :(
139 Intls..... 0.78"
140 SBTs.... 0.85" :)
140 Nacc.... 1.08"
140 Solid Base... 0.233" 8)

The wonderful Nosler Solid Base was really overshadowed with the advent of the Partition but is a superb bullet with the proper grain weight and application...that downed scores of game. I will shoot a whitetail with this rig in November and report the results...Nosler brought them back recently but I don't see anyone PRing their value. They are very similar in excellent flight/accuracy characteristics to a Sierra SBT with(I believe) better weight retention.
Right now they are closing out at the Shooter's Pro Shop for peanuts

Northwoods Hunter,

Nice shooting! Looks like you are set to go. That 140 gr SB should be just about perfect for a big swamp buck.

You bet JD!

BTW...I rigged the CDL with a new Leupie VX II 3X9X40...I loved the Conquest but need the extra eye relief...surprised that the new VX IIs still adjust with a screw driver for elevation and windage! For over 300$ its time to use your fingers Leupold! :?

Other than that the scope was very nice...

Somehow Longwinters has this stock 700 trigger down to just UNDER 2 lbs!!!! I tweaked it down to 3# but he has surpassed that...quite a feat LONG!

It is funny how a load that works great for one person may not be so good for someone else. But that load of H4350 with the SB sure did shoot well. I am still trying to figure out how you got me to trade that rifle back to you  .

Now you still have to load up some 120 Ballistic Tips and see what she will do.
