Longwinters and I made final preparations for Michigan Firearm season today. I traded him my new Rem 700 LV .22-250 for (my original) Rem 700 CDL 7MM08.
Don't ask why we often trade back and forth...
Long had several 140 Accubonds loaded up but they were around MOA (at best)for me...(they shot 0.50" for him )...so I decided to try a few other bullet choices. That rifle really liked large doses of H 4350...like 48-48.5grs...pushing very close to 3,000 fps
I loaded 5 each of; Hornady 139 SST, Hornady 139 INTL , Sierra SPT , 140 Accubonds and lastly, an old favorite the 140gr Nosler Solid base...
The 100yd results...all with 48.5gr of H 4350 and seated at SAMMI C.O.A.L. specs...
139 SSTs.... 1.89"
139 Intls..... 0.78"
140 SBTs.... 0.85"
140 Nacc.... 1.08"
140 Solid Base... 0.233" 8)
The wonderful Nosler Solid Base was really overshadowed with the advent of the Partition but is a superb bullet with the proper grain weight and application...that downed scores of game. I will shoot a whitetail with this rig in November and report the results...Nosler brought them back recently but I don't see anyone PRing their value. They are very similar in excellent flight/accuracy characteristics to a Sierra SBT with(I believe) better weight retention.
Right now they are closing out at the Shooter's Pro Shop for peanuts
