It was cloudy and misty this morning but this is one of the last times I had to get out and shoot at a very relaxed pace. I had 6 rifles to shoot and hoped for the best. The goal is to get them all up and ready for deer season by September 1.
.243 with 100 gr interlocks and H4350
38.0gr-3.128" 2635/2668/2672
39.0gr-2.333" 2740/2764/2773
40.0gr-2.833" 2812/2808/2825
I was hoping they would be smaller groups but it didn't happen. I have some 85gr Partitions on the way to try next.
My Ruger 25-06 was next with 110 AccuBonds, 47.5 grains of IMR4350. I wanted to zero and shoot one last group before season.
Group #1-.486"
5 shot over the chronograph-2898/2950/2918/2933/2943
This one is ready for some hunting!!!
270 with 130 BTip with 60.0 H4831sc. I tried different lengths. (measurements are off the ogive)
2.759-1.066" 2956/2955/2972 (2 touching 1 out)
2.764-1.317" 2970/2950/3017 (this group shot .861" last time)
2.769-1.385" 2994/3005/3035
I am going to load up the 2.759 load again and try playing with the action screws. Since the last range trip, I took the rifle apart to put the new trigger spring in.
7mmRM with 150 CTBT, IMR4350 63.0gr with different lengths.
2.701-1.122" 2962/2980/2968
2.691-.643" 2940/2956/2948
2.681-1.862" 2926/2940/2943
This rifle is ready. All I could do is smile thinking about how my father-in-law said it was not accurate!!!
I will load up the 2.691 load for hunting season.
Sauer 202 30-06 I shot 2 shots to get it zeroed then a 3 shot group.
The group was 2.160 with the first two .75" apart. Last time out it shot a .5" group. I don't know what happened with the last shot, but the speed was lower.
5 shots-2731/2702/2707/2698/2673
And last was my Ruger 30-06 with H4350 and 165 Partitions
58.0gr-2.206" 2768/2773/2789
58.5gr-1.469" 2794/2787/2817 (2 close one out)
59.0gr-1.861" 2808/2828/2791
I plan on trying 58.2, 58.5, 58.8 grains again. I hope to get a group close to today's then work on seating depth.
One thing I did notice, was the speeds of my rounds compared to last time out. Today they were on average 20-50 fps slower across the board. I tried to set the tripod up in the same place. I could not have been off by more than a foot, if anything, it was a little lower today than last time.
I did not want to bore you with pictures, but out of the 6 rifles, the 25-06, 270, 7mm and Sauer could go hunting today and the Ruger 30-06 is very close. It was a great morning.
Any other ideas or thoughts to try with the results posted?
