Anyone have some good info to share using this combination along with real velocity.

Thanks,
Don

I'm using 87.0 grains of (Nosler's mid book and accurate load) IMR 7828ssc with 180 accubonds and Federal 215 primers and getting 3297 fps from my RUM. Accuracy was .87".

I used the 87 grains of 7828 SSC for a buddies 300 RUM with .750 groups with 180 AB's. I tried a bunch of H-1000 loads with no success before I tried the 7878 and couldn't get a group. I never chrono'd the load so I don't know the speed.

Thanks you guys for input.

Scotty,
I haven't switched, just giving it a try. Since I restocked, free floated and had pillars installed everything has changed, even canceled my Colorado Hunt. Gun not shooting tight groups, I'm not going, that simple. Anyway there's more to it than that.

I spent endless time developing the load I had previously posted before the rework was performed. That load won't work. I'm close with one using Reloader 25 again. Trying different seating depths, just haven't made it to the range. But remembered I shot 7828 with good success in the past. Thought I would give it a try again.

I get you buddy. I was just wondering. That is a pain when you do work that should make the rifle a better shooter and it gets more picky! Good luck with it, I hope you find something.

That does stink about your elk hunt though! I am surprised you didn't just load the Whelen up and continue to March! I am sure Col. Whelen would have smiled down from above had you gone that direction. Scotty

I use IMR 7828 SSC for my .340 Bee with heavier bullets (87 grains incidentally). With the Fed 215 Match Mag primer, I am getting at or better than the (old) advertised Weatherby muzzle velocities in my .340 Bee and really good accuracy. That is why I switched, someone on the Weatherby Rifle Forum got me to change and try the 7828 SSC.

Old Trader,
7828 Powder is an old proven powder with good consistency. I was shooting 180 Partitions with it back at that time. Flattened a 30" Muley Buck with that load. Looking back, the very reason to give it a try again, may try the SSC version as well.

Scotty,
Yes I could have easily taken the Whelen this year. But entering the mix of not going was my good Buddy losing his job I heavily rely on to hunt with. He's got the Horses, Tent and 4-wheeler we use when hunting.
He must spend all his time hunting for work verses hunting for Elk this year. It stinks but it's not the end of the world. I had a really good Buck tag this year too, plus a Cow Tag. It's disgusting with the RUM at this point but now with not going it allows more time to find the answer. It will all work out. I wish you and your hunting party well this year, be safe and shoot straight old buddy!!
Looking forward to some pics too.

Don
