Anyone have any experience with these or their brethren, the Charles Daly or Interarms Mark X? I've found one that is fairly cheap and I'm thinking it may qualify as a donor for a project.

I`ve looked at a few- i think they are nice - M98 action updated - i have a Parker Hale 7mm rem mag that i shot game with for years- throat is shot out of it so a new barrel is needed - will be my next project and it will become a 338 Win Mag ! I would use it . What are you wanting to build if i may ask .
Cheers RJ :)

I've been dreaming of a Whelen since I was a just a lad. Hart Barrels is just a couple hours down the road so I will use them.

Sounds like a really nice gun when it's all put together, DrMike's Hart barreled 35 Whelen is very accurate.

Volume discounts on 5 or more barrels!! Who else?

No complaints on my Hart barrel. It shoots quite accurately. Here is a group with 250 grain Partitions.

This is what it is doing with 225 grain TSX. Increasing charge left to right. Extreme right groups is a four shot group.

I've got a 7mm RM Interarms MK X that's going to become something else, maybe a .358 Norma, maybe a .375-.338, maybe a .416 Taylor, maybe a .425 Express.

I'm assuming that since you're willing to invest money into a build with it that you like the action and controls?

Yep, although I don't even remember what kind of safety it has. It'll most likely end up with a Model 70 type safety. Well built, nicely machined, nicely polished. I wish I had a half dozen more like it.

My Grandfather owns an Interarms Mark X in 270 WCF and a Charles Daly in 25-06 that I stocked for him. My Mother shoots an Interarms in 7x57mm Mauser. All of them are great shooting guns with any variety of handloads or factory rounds.

I think its a very worthwhile investment especially as a donor for your childhood dream of a Whelen!

Whatever you do, DONT shoot the donor. Its true what they say and it will throw a wrench in the cogs of your plans!

P.S. - Kurt, I know my vote doesnt matter but I say go with the 358 Norma...I have always wanted to shoot one of those!

Who knows, Dale. It's pretty far down on my list of priorities right now. I'll likely change my mind on what it will become 15 times before I actually do anything with it.

I know Kurt. I am exactly the same way. Although I do have a top 5 narrowed down...for now.

I have a custom stocked Mark X Mauser chambered for 7mm Rem Mag that I have had since 1973. The group shown below is representative of the 160 Partition handload that I have shot in it for the last 20 or so years. This Mark X rifle of mine has a Gentry cocking piece and other enhancements done to it. The action and bolt appear to be an identical copy of the Browning High Power (Safari Grade) bolt action dimensionally and have good fit, finish and function. The only complaint that I have ever had with this rifle is that I had to retap and open the scope mount screw holes in the action up to 8-40 but that may not be an original defect with a rifle this age.

Nothing wrong with that group, Charlie. What about a picture of the rifle?

What I should do with mine.

The following is a picture of the Mark X Mauser custom rifle that I purchased in 1973. The rifle is mounted with a Kahles 3.5-10x50 scope (which is dark blue, not purple). The amazing attribute for me with this rifle is the fact that despite the wood stock figure and the rifle having been hunted during all conditions for nearly 40 years, I have never had any issues with zero change since I skim bedded the recoil lug and rear tang in the mid-1970's. Please excuse the clutter, these are not art pictures.
