What are the physical differences between a Model 700 in 270 versus a Model 700, "XCR" in 300 WM? In particular I am speaking about fitting a 270 into a XCR, magnum stock? Both are BDL's and of course, long actions. Would there be a significant difference in barrel fit?

XCR is a coating on the barreled action, and different colors on the grip panels in the stock. The .300 is going to have a "Remington Magnum Sporter" barrel contour, the .270 will have a "Remington Standard Sporter" contour. So your .270 will drop into the stock for the .300, but you are going to have some noticeable gaps in the barrel channel in the stock. not really going to be that big of deal.

Not wanting to high-jack your post:

I recently aquired a 700 Remington SPS SS 7MM Mag., NIB at a going out of business gun-shop sale. Gota a great price on it, like I needed another one  .

Upon opening the sealed carton, I was suprised to find this bottom-line rifle to have an XCR rubber paneled stock on it. The carton end-lable indicated it was indeed an SPS SS rifle. Evidently Remington, these days, is throwing anything together to get a rifle out the door. I personally do not care for this style of stock, and will re-stock this rifle in the near future.

Thanks for viewing,

Jim
