S&W I-bolt

I ran across one of these the other day, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. Seems like a decent enough design, though the stock is crap. I read about the recalls on them (one on just a few serial numbers and one across the board), so I'm a little skeptical about them. I don't think I'd buy another rifle at this point, but this one is ultra-cheap (less than $200 out the door) and in stainless, to boot. So my curiosity is peaked.

What can you tell me about them? Has anyone attempted a stock replacement? What are the closest fits?

I would get the rifle and not look back! I had one in the 25-06 and I was getting three shot groups of .311 inches at 100 yards! I really like the S&W I-bolt rifle.

Less than $200, could'nt that make a good base platform for a custom rifle?

Well if you do not want it I will buy it for my buddy's kid. They can not afford one right now. What caliber btw? Let me know.

I've shot a few of the I-Bolts, and found them to be reasonable in the accuracy department. At that price, I wouldn't hesitate to take it on.

Well, I should have grabbed it, I guess. It was a 30-06, but it's gone now.

POP, I'll keep an eye out for another deal of some sort, as I run across them frequently. Same shop has a Howa in 243 in a youth model for $299 if you're interested, or a vanguard in either 243 or 30-06 for $329 or so.

Ideally a 270 win. Minimal for elk

(more or less)

That was a good deal, too bad its gone.

That is interesting!

Did you get my email, POP? I sent you the link to the shop's web listing of used guns. They have some Savages in the under $300 range, as well as a Howa in 270Win, and then a couple of 280's (A-Bolt and Ruger 77) for in the middle $300's. I'd really like to have the 280 in the Ruger, just because I like that one, but no new rifles for me right now. And the next one has to be a dedicated coyote rifle, or perhaps a coyote/white-tail rifle. It's just not nice to use a 270Wby to put coyotes down. It will work, and probably be spectacular, but it's sort of like using a 416 on antelope...
