Very windy here today but the Savage bolt gun still grouped pretty good at 100 yds. It's printed smaller groups but in much better conditions. However, today's conditions are more realistic to Midwest hunting elements. I shot 4.5" groups at 250 yds 3 weeks ago verifying the Leupold Ultimate Slam reticle. Slug technology has come a long way from when I first started hunting Ohio in 1989. If I had this rifle then, I'd have several more giant bucks on my wall now.

Definitely appears you have a shooter in that slug gun. You are correct that the technology has come a long way in the past decade or two. I'd say you're in good shape to tag a deer or two should the opportunity arise.

If I had it to do over, a rig like that would be on top my list vs the 12. Ha Mossberg that I have. Groups that well but I could live without the recoil. Nice setup! CL

I got to shoot my Savage 220 at something much larger and exciting than paper/cardboard targets. I shot this Iowa 10 pt Dec. 5th. 30 yd quartering to shot. He ran under my tree stand and died 10 yds away from the base of the tree. I recovered the slug from just under the hide on the opposite side. It was fully mushroomed and imparted the mother load of energy into this hefty buck.

Nice Buck! At 30 yards Im surprised that slug didn't make it out. How far did you have to track him? Again, Nice Buck!! CL

No tracking. Never left my sight. Died 10 yds from base of tree.

Nice slug gun for sure. Congratulations on a dandy buck.

Nice buck, there's something about a slug from a shoot gun that just seems to make them lay right down and die when hit in the right place at least the ones I've had the good fortune to take with the 12ga has.

Very nice! That bullet looks light years better than any 20 gauge SST I've ever recovered. Way to go! Great buck! Congrats.

Fantastic job on both ends, great deer, perfectly mushroomed bullet, and accurate! What more could you ask for..... other then one more tag just to do it all over again!

Where I go deer hunting for three weeks every year my friend owns a gun shop. My hunting buddy does all the sighting in of rifles for the store. I get to help while I am there. I got to shoot one of those Savage 20s when they first came out. I was blown away by the accuracy. Then again at $5+ a round it had better be accurate LOL. Yep slugs and slug guns have come a looooooog way. Great looking buck.
