I have a Rem 788 22-250 coming. It is not a heavy barrel but them 788's shot very well. Anyway what power scope would you mount?

I put a 3x9 Compact Leupold on my light-weight walking varminter. Small, light and works fine.

For 300 and under I would go with the nikon buckmasters 4.5-14x40 w/ whatever reticle suits your fancy.

I was gonna say a leupold vx2, 4-12x40 but they are a lil over 300 bux.

Plus with the nikon, you have broader power range.

I think 4.5x is plenty low for calling, and 14x is plenty good for coyotes out to 600-700 yards or so.

I do have a 4x12x40 vx1 Leupy sitting around.

That 4-12x VX I shoud do fine. If I were putting together a predator rifle, I would probably use that scope with the LR Duplex reticle. Just wish I could get a VX II 4-12x40 without the AO.

what you have is great if you decide not to put on yours, i will let you put it on mine

my rem 788 22-250 has a 6x18x40 on it. it is a good setup for calling and spot and stalk for predators. with many coyotes, one cougar and a few deer to it's credit. the extra power scope and shooting sticks can pull coyotes out of the sage at long yardage. your leopold is a good choice

A good 4X fixed or a 3X9 will be ideal. As a matter of fact, a Tactical Scopes is even better. Here's my Cooper Phoenix 223 Ackley Improved with Nikon 2.5X10X44.
