I was really happy this morning as I was getting ready to go to Old River and hunt this afternoon. As you all remember in an earlier post I changed out my Ziess Conquest 4.5-14x44 on my Mark V 30-06 and put a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm Z 600 to use in some of the tight areas in Old River.

I am shooting a 165gr in front of 59gr H4350 moving at 2973fps today and the three groups were the same tight groups as when I was using the 4.5-14x44mm. That made me very happy today and also went to the woods with plenty of confidence.

Powerstroke, I can't wait to see what I connect with myself. Saw Does coming and going but no bucks. Of course sense a doe is not legal until tomorrow, primitive weapons season, I think that is why all I saw was Does. It's like they know.

Things are starting to pick up now that I am getting to know Old River better. I was hunting leases for the last 8 yrs and it has been that long since I have hunted Old River. It is different than 8 years ago because of Katrina and loggers that have changed the landscape but you talk about some big tracks showing up in quite a few places.

It has been said by the game wardens and hunters who have hunted Old River for some years now, that if a deer in Old River does not want to see a human all year long they don't have to.
