Well I cleaned my 06 before I shot with Sweets and hit the range today. I shot 27 rounds. The rounds with H4530 57, 57.5, and5 58 all shot well. Would you clean the rifle again with Sweets, leave it alone, or use GunSlick Foam. I tested 3 groups of 3 in the 22-250 and each group got smaller as I shot, so I am not going to touch that rifle until I see accuracy drop. I plan on trying the 3 test groups of 06 again. If they do what they did today, I will be happy with them for this rifle season.

I would not do a thing until the accuracy drops, that way you have an idea of how much the barrel will take and reamin accurate.

I usually clean after each range session. I think it boils down to what makes you most comfortable. Scotty

When testing loads, I clean thoroughly after every set. This permits me to begin the next tests from baseline conditions as close as practical to the last test. After the range session, I clean thoroughly before stowing my gear, unless I'll be taking the rifles on a hunt, in which case I will leave them fouled after the final session.

WT, after each range session when testing new loads I use butches boreshine, Barnes CR-10, and some QuickScrub III. The QuickScrub leaves a very clean, degreased bore the seems to minimize the flyers typically associated with a clean barrel.

If you found your load and plan on hunting with it LEAVE IT ALONE. Too many people don't really know just how good their rifles will shoot because they clean all the seasoning out of the barrel. Too many people miss a shot on their game because they cleaned their rifle after they sighted in on a fouled bore then then went home and cleaned it and it won't shoot to the same POI that first shot out of a clean bore. I don't clean until accuracy starts falling off our unless I have hunted in inclement weather. Then I make sure and fire a shot or two to foul the bore before my next hunting outing.

I usually make note of where the first shot prints when I arrive at the range with a clean cold barrel, and compare that to those shots taken afterward. Might be a good idea to shoot from a clean cold barrel, then clean the bore and allow it to cool, then shoot again and repeat... to see where the clean cold group is. Just thinking out loud... Jim

I personally clean all rifles after each session even if only one shot , unless I plan to hunt with in the near future. I like a fouled barrel prior to hunting, but once I start hunting it is a three month affair, so I clean and refoul when hunt is back on.

I clean my rifles after every range session. The only time I do not clean is for hunting season.

Most target shooters prefer to have some fouling in the bore. Before a shoot they will but clean there rifle put 20 rounds down it and leave it. This is to prevent any fliers.

Yep that is how I go about things. I try to get accuracy readings on a clean barrel, then don't clean until those readings are reduced.

If, however, I go out and get moisture in the bore I'll run a little patch soaked w/ Kroil through the bore, then run a dry one 2 or 3x to dry it out.

At some point in the past I realized that I was wasting time and overcleaning.

On the other hand, if you're running brushless and get satisfaction from cleaning there is no harm unless you have a rifle that shoots better w/ a slightly fouled bore, which is true of a lot of factory rifles w/ rough bores (I have a couple of 'em).

With my hunting rifles i check zero after a good cleaning. Shoot a fouler not at the target. Then i shoot a group. If it is doing what i expect, i run a dry bore snake through it and it is ready to hunt. Piece of electrical tape on the muzzle to keep the moisture out.

I don't clean the bore until accuracy falls off. How far depends on what it is used for. Generally under 1/2 moa however. Some less, at .1-.2 moa.

As do I.

Luckily I never had a rifle that needed more than one or two shots to settle down.
