Feast your eyes Gentlemen (and ladies if any). Here are the two best Model 70 rifles ever made...

Went to the range today, the 300 WSM averaged 2900 fps for three shots and my 180 grain E-tip load. May bump that up from 63 to 64 grains just to get the 2950 I was hoping for though I am not disappointed at all, they shoot wonderfully. Don't have a mike or calipers to measure the group but it was around .5-.6 inches for three shots at 100 yards...not too shabby!

My 30-06 never one to be put out shot around .75 with 150 grain SP Federal Power Shock factory loads (three shots) at 100 yards averaging 2975 fps. These were given to me as a birthday present and shot quite well I might add for factory stuff. Cant wait to try some of the 150 grain E-Tips at about the same velocity. Anyhow...enjoy, loving my new 300 WSM!

When in doubt, buy a Winchester, they will never let you down and are pretty good looking too!

FJ, that is one great pair of rifles! They are very sharp looking buddy! What are your loads for the 300? Scotty

Boanerges, you say? Couple of sharp looking rifles. The ballistics data sounds great from this far north. Which one is James? And which one is John?

Looks good, Dale! Not much in Oregon you can't get done with an '06 M70, and the Wizzum is just more goodness. You M70 guys are wearing me down!

You got some pair buddy!

I hope so! This is alot of work coaxing you into more M70's Kurt! Scotty

they look like a beautiful rifle just wished they made them in a lefty version

Blessings,
Dan

I loaded the 300 WSM with 63 grains of H4350 and a Remington 9.5 primer and an OAL of 2.910" they are a tack driving load. Thought about bumping it up to 64 grains to get 75-100 fps more muzzle velocity but it shoots so well I wont likely change anything, 2900 fps with a 180 grain bullet is nothing to scoff at!

Dad's RL-22 loads with the 180 AccuBond clocked an average of 3090 fps for three shots but they were a little hot for this rifle as was noted from the flat primers and shiny spots on the case head. Awesomely enough they shoot to the same POA as the 180 grain E-tip load. Looking forward to throwing down on an elk this fall with the 300 WSM!

As for who is who I would have to say the 30-06 is John since he was around the longest and the 300 is James because he says so much with so little!

I knew you guys would like these photos! They make me smile each time.

Kurt you gotta get more Model 70's, I have had five of them in my lifetime already unfortunately only have two now. But you can never have enough of them. Had two of the Post 64' Model 70's (a 270 and a 308) and of course the Model 70 Classic Stainless (300 Win Mag) that I just sold to Elkman!

Great shooting FJ, that sounds like a great load and the ET's seem like they shot great, right off. Says alot about your loading. Looking forward to seeing some targets and maybe you can sneak one of them ET's into a few water jugs for us. Scotty

Man, only on this board is four M70s inadequate!

I figured out last year, that I have owned about 25 Model 70's in the past 45 years, in calibers from .250 Savage to .375 H&H and built from 1936 through 2002. I only have two now but have paid my dues.

I'm ashamed to say that I'm down to nine Winchester bolt guns and three Model 94s at the present. I sold several in the past year. Now, I have to get busy to buy some replacements.

Very nice pair of rifles there! I love the look of SS & wood... add to that a CRF action and you've got yourself a WINNER!

I've gotta get myself a Win M70!

I have owned two in my life and traded one and sold the other. You guys are not helping.

In all seriousness, if you haven't looked at the M70's made in SC, check them out. A very nice rifle for the money. Scotty
