Our Tennessee Rifle Season opened the 23rd with no results. Day after Thanksgiving I shot a Doe with the 165 BT at 2800 fps, Rib Cage shot, hit one rib going in and out resulting in a small tangerine sized holes on both sides, Lungs were a mess. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Killed another Doe, same place, same spot the next day, it was a Bang Flop Heart shot.

Thank-You Nosler for providing reliable Bullets for us.

Congratulations, Don; great to hear that the season started with a "BANG."

Congratulations, DON. Those BT sure do the trick on deer, I wish we could still use them in our lead free area of California.

Very cool Don! I imagine that is a super load right there. Probably nice to start stacking deer in the freezer too..

It's just the start for me, it's Whelen time now. Heading out Sat. morning to hopefully get a Buck as there are some BIG ONES roaming around.

Don

Nice work Don.
Good luck with the 35 Whelen.

Good luck with your Whelen Don. I think that rifle has a little luck built in as well..

Right on; nice work Don.

I've adopted the 168 NBT with its heavy jacket & Ramshot Hunter @ approx 2850 fps as my "one load to kill them all" in the 06 after years of dinkin around w/ everything under the sun. Unless it's brown bear, that'll be my load wherever I travel.

I hit a large whitetail doe at close range right in the shoulders earlier this month and the bullet turned the knuckle to bone meal, obliterated the lungs & heart, and made a nice neat hole through the other side which allowed a generous flow of blood & lung tissue. DRT.

Based upon my practice time, the same would have happened out to 400 yds.

Can't wait to try er through mulies & elk!

Congratulations on filling a couple of doe tags. Hope the rest of your season is as successful .

Blessings,
Dan

efw,
I had the 165 BT going 2900 + with Ramshot Hunter earlier this year, that is a really good powder I feel with the limited time I spent messing around with it. You have an awesome load and a deadly one at that!

Don

Thanks Don. My rifle likes the combo:

In testing over a chrono I had the 165 SST doing over 3k w/ Hunter but flattened out primers and obviously wasn't safe. It wasn't terribly accurate, either.

Hunter has been extraordinarily impressive for me in the 30-06, 257 AI, and 6-250 in both accuracy & velocity.

efw,
I like to tinker with powders at times but once I have a load that's proven I tend to stick with it.
Your group looks good buddy.

That's is very wise; the 165 NBT is a great way to go and will do it all!

I'm finally learning that lesson; this is my "one load to kill em all" for me in my "ole meat in the pot" rifle.

Nice work! I hope you're able to get more "field testing" in this season!

Who said "If it can't be done with a .30-06, it probably doesn't need to be done."

Cooper maybe? I don't know. Rings true though.

The 30-06 is such a proven round over the years. I like the versatility too. I have shot a lot of Deer with this gun, it just fits me so well. No matter the gun or bullet you still have to make shot placement count.
