This bullet has great accuracy in my CZ550FS... The load I shoot leaves the barrel at 3050fps. Shot one whitetail at 120yds. and another at 270yds and both times the bullet performed perfectly. Dime-sized hole in the near lung, nearly half-dollar-sized through the far lung, and a nickle-sized exit hole. Best of all, very little bloodshot meat at the entrance and exit.
My question is, why does this ballistic tip work so well? Is it because it has a thicker jacket for the guys shooting hot .264WinMag loads with it?

My guess would be that if you ran the 100g BT in the .264, you would have 2 cases on your hands. 1 hell of a barrel burner, and 2, a great long range coyote round. For a deer bullet, there is much better choice then the 100g BT in the .264. Its to light, fragile of a bullet for those kinda speeds. I assume your shooting a 6.5x55 or .260 by the velocities your achieving. At those velocities, the bullet has time to do its job and expand nicely and penetrate. The 120g on the other hand would be a great choice in the .264, but thats still a little on the light side. Most prefer a 140g in the .264 because it has the power to push that heavier bullet with a higher BC, which translates into more power, more retained velocity, and less wind drift. I love nosler Btips, they are my favorite varmint/coyote/medium game bullet, but they must be used within there guidelines. Most btip failures are the operators fault.

Sounds like you have the perfect deer load. What caliber are you shooting?
It seems to me that the lighter weight BT's in 7mm (120 gr) and 308 (125gr) are very robust bullets. I beleive that the jacket thickness is heavier than the heavier bullet weights. This enables the bullet to hold together better and penetrate. I would guess that the 6.5mm 100 gr BT would be similar in performance.
I tested the 120 gr BT at 3400 fps from my 280 AI and recovered a bullet from gallon water jugs at 100 yds. I was amazed at the performance!
