The Eastern Sports and Outdoor show is canceled. The big one on the east coast that is located in Harrisburg, Pa.

Vendors started pulling out of this to make a statement because the organizer...Reed Exhibitions...wanted to ban anything involving an "assault weapon" from being in the show. Pictures, physical guns, they wanted the show to be free of any of the "bad guns".

The NSSF got involved here and really pushed for the show to be canceled and to assist vendors in pulling out. NSSF is the organization that runs the SHOT show in Vegas. They deserve the medal on this one as it wasn't the NRA who got this show canceled it was the NSSF.

Celebrities were also vocal on this one...the pro gun celebs...and they canceled their appearances and such.

For those of you not on the east coast I can't express enough how much of an impact this show being canceled is having. Harrisburg, pa alone is losing atleast eight figures of revenue and probably more closer to 100 million plus.

I'm on the east coast so I don't know what changes have happened on the West Coast/Mid West with shows and such but this is a big deal.

Reed exhibitions says the show is postponed but there won't be a show unless they quit discriminating certain guns.

Not around here!

Went to another gun show last weekend. One hour after the door opened it was grid-loc. Building capacity sign said 550 and they had sold close to 700. Needless to say, I got outa there!

Glad to see blow back when people in our industry try and play both sides of the fence. I hope Dicks Sporting Goods follows these folks into oblivion.

When gun manufacturers and owners start thinking they can seperate the "types" of guns to save their favorite "type" guns are doomed to oblivion.

"United we stand, divided we fall" seems to ring true here. While I may not be a big fan of the AR, AK, or SKS platform I recognize that they are a firearm, thus deserving of the same political support I give any firearm. It is not the government's, or anyone's, place to tell me what I can own or need.

And Vince, I thank you. I'm an equal opportunity gun owner and although I'm mainly a shotgun feind, I have 2 ARs (one strictly for hunting & paper punching) that I love. It drives me nuts when the sporting clays types or bolt gun folks scoff at the AR and have the "let em take em away" mindset. The "bad" guns are just another stepping stone to the next type of gun. It'll be a shame when these "let em take the ARs" folks find out that their bolt action hunting rifles have now become high powered sniper rifles. Again, thank you!

I seem to remember Smith & Wesson receiving quite a bit of backlash a couple decades back (I think) for trying to appease and play both sides.

Yes they did. One of the big idiot decisions they made in the past was to incorporate a lock right into the firearm. Right along with Remington, but we see how well that fared...all to the level of them getting rid of that stupid dust collecting apparatus.

I am glad the Harrisburg show was cancelled and my heart goes out to those that felt the negative impact of this.
I hope that someone else can organize a show and leave Reed out in the cold without any revenue.

Strict bolt gun guys better realize that the U.S. military uses the Remington 700 in the M24, M40, and XM2010. Even bolt guns were meant for war...

My dad carried a 1903 through five battles in the pacific.

That's a bolt gun if there ever was one.

I truly agree Vince. Then 1903's were shear terror.
