First of all guys, sorry for this post. Just venting. Our rifle range is on privately owned land but my uncle was told by the president of the sportsmans club that when the rifle range first opened, they were allowed to use the property for a rifle range for 50 years. In the years past, the owner has always put some cattle on it at certain times of the year. The cows have never gotten in the way of our shooting and stay well away from where the shooting happens. Anyways, my girlfriend and I went out to shoot some test loads in my rifles and to sight in her rifle after getting her scope back from being worked on. We got out there and the range was closed. The sign on the gate said was it was closed to let cattle graze. Well it was only supposed to be closed for 10 days and its still closed and the land owners son is the one who put the cows in there. He wont tell anyone when he is taking them out. We pay for a key to the gate every year when they change the lock. Am I out of line being mad that he closed off the land when we pay to use it and there is a supposed contract stating it is open to shooters? This is just rediculous that he has closed it off during the time of year that the range is usually the busiest. I might have to start looking for a spot where I can build my own range to shoot so we dont have to worry about this crap.

Med rare please.

The members of the club should request a meeting with the president and the board of directors to review the terms and conditions. They should also contact the owner of the cattle and find out when the cattle will be moved. They should also tell the cattle owner that the son is not being very helpful be providing information. A reminder that the club is doing him a favor should get you the information you need.

There is always tension when land is shared by people with differing needs/desires. By all means, communication is required in this instance. Ideally, the son of the owner would have communicated what was going on. Since he hasn't done so, the club will need to take the initiative to request a meeting to clarify the agreement and to determine how to resolve the issue. I certainly understand the tension and the irritation, but in this instance, it could be a long-term problem to let your irritation show when discussing the matter. Best of luck in resolving the irritant.

I have called the president a couple times asking him if he had heard any news. He has talked to the son a couple times and he wont give him a definite answer on when the cows will be moved. Im trying not to complain to much since I know he has to feed his cattle to make a living but its just irritating.
