A couple of hours ago I got a text message, with an image of two hunters and a spike elk, in the snow... One hunter looked "seasoned" and the other is a bearded giant... I think that elk didn't have a chance.

Scotty's story to tell, and all I got was a photo anyway. Looking good though!

Congrats seem to be in order. I imagine we'll get the rest of the story soon enough.

Guy

Bill and Scotty well, congratulations to which ever one of them scored. It has been foggy and wet in western Washington most of the week, until today. Things seem to be improving on the elk front!

Hopefully the old .338 got some work! That guy will be smiling from here to Christmas...

That sounds great! A couple of good men who deserve a good score.

Well guys we are surely going to get our photos & story now .
I wonder if maybe Scotty is using his 35 Whelen. Really does not matter I am happy they connected!!!

Blessings,
Dan

Good show.
Looking forward to getting the story.

Shouldn't be a problem. Scotty's got two big shoulders. Put an elk on each, and point him towards the road...

All jokes aside I have been known to do that with a White Tail deer. Tie their legs together and sling them over my shoulder. It was easier to get them out where I hunted that way.

The downside is the potential for other hunters deciding to shoot a deer while it is on your shoulder. Man, I've witnessed way too many shot-happy Jehus in the field.

I won't do it in firearm hunting areas, but I used to hunt a local NWR that was archery only, and after taking a nice ~90-100lb doe, I drug her out via rope. Grueling on the wrists/hands. So the next year, when I shot an almost identical doe, from the same tree, within 5 days on the calendar, I decided that my API Grand Slam treestand was a dandy carry frame, as it was packed with the tree-facing side "up," giving a nice shelf on which to lash the doe. It was a great idea, in theory. I'll only say that it is eye-opening (and maybe eye-watering) to have roughly 125lbs on your shoulders only (no waist belt on a climber, of course) and walk approximately 1mi that way. But even in the archery woods I did wrap my spare orange vest around the doe's body so it would be well visible to anyone. I figured there was little risk of being arrowed as I walked out the two-rut road to the parking area, anyway, but safety first!

I agree with you Mike. I would carry an extra blaze orange vest and put it on the deer. The places I hunted no one else would go because it was so hard to get to and even harder to get a deer out of. It was very rare that I saw another hunter.
I've been stalked while Turkey hunting and had a bird killed in front of me by another hunter who thought I was a wild Turkey. He even admitted he was hunting me when he shot the bird I was calling. Needless to say I don't hunt or call wild Turkeys anymore.
